When I did this, they inquired if I had pre-paid my doctor to cover the deductible and since I had, they agreed to post-bill me. I suspect had I not already paid my $2500 deductible to the doctor, I would have been required to pre-pay. </p> <p>That being said, I got the bill after it had been processed through insurance about a month later. The hospital has to add everything up, then submit it to the insurance company for them to pay their portion, and then I’ll be billed for whatever my portion is. I’ve never had to pay anything up front when going to a hospital, even an ER visit. Just receive the bill several weeks after.</p> <p>Also, your LO, from the minute they are born, is covered separately from you under whatever insurance plan you will put them on.
