We started training my DS at 2.5 years old. We tried the 3-day method, and it worked well for us.

I really want to start VERY slowly introducing the idea at about 20m (this summer). Then by 2-2.5 he should be mostly there. I think at 2.5, I'd crack down and go balls to the wall about it.

She's potty training herself. At about 22 months she showed an interest and starting to use the potty. We actually moved her out of diapers at about 28 months with very few accidents. She's now 31 months and still wears a diaper for sleeping.

It's a mixture of her telling us when she needs to go and us requiring her to try still.

E tells us when she has to go...she just won't pee on the potty yet. She's 21 months but I think if we spent a weekend at home, we could get somewhere with potty training. B was ready by 27 months. Ready as in, we had already introduced the potty for the past 6 months and he could tell us when he had to go, other than for naps and bed time. Naps were okay by 2.5 and he stayed dry at bedtime by 3.

I started potty training C at 19 months using Jamie Glowacki's Oh Crap Potty Training approach. He had it down (day and night) by 22 months. For me it wasn't so much him being totally ready as it was me being totally committed. He would be eager to please, had some communication skills, and his daycare was willing to work with me.

I bought J a potty when he was 15 months and would have him sit on it before going into the tub and just have him sit on it before bed.
He hasn't gone in it yet but does tell me when he wants his diaper changed. We're working on communication and I'm a full time WOHM. Most days he's with DH, some days with daycare, the routine just isn't consistent.
I know he'll get it eventually.
(I hope!)

We started with close to full-time underwear and a potty seat around 24 months, give or take, and finished completely (excluding nights) 4-5 months later. The only cues I really looked for in him was the ability to pull his pants off on his own and recognition that he was eliminating. It felt like it took a long time, but in retrospect, it wasn't bad. Get some Bac-Out if you have carpet or rugs.

Our method was: introduce to the idea using a little standalone potty (we did this well before 2yo and weren't terribly consistent with it, but maybe it helped lay some foundation?), let him be naked as much as possible, cement the idea of pooping in the toilet (#2 was easier to catch because it was more regularly timed), transition to underwear (we used the thick Gerber underwear), and eventually he just started telling us before he had to go. He initially only cued me when he was going, then a second or two before he started, and eventually we got to several minutes' warning. I initially used diapers for trips out and told him these were 'travel' diapers just in case, but that he should still tell me if he had to go.

Now he announces, runs to the bathroom, turns on the light, and gets up on the toilet himself. He still needs help finishing and washing his hands. If we're in the car or out somewhere, he gives me enough warning that accidents are exceptionally rare. He's 3.

As for gear, we had a little potty, but he didn't care for it. The potty seat on the actual toilet was his immediate preference. I also bought a little Rubbermaid step stool so he could get up on his own and had a place to put his feet.

My BFF gave us her old Bjorn potty a few months ago, and we've had it in the bathroom. C sometimes sits on it while we're going (and chats with us, haha) and she'll wave bye-bye to the pee when I use the restroom, but she's never gone in it herself.

She JUST started telling us two days ago after she's pooped (by making a face, waving her hand, and saying, "Stinky!"), so we're starting to think about it. She's almost 21 months.

we've introduced DD to the potty. She usually tells us when she goes but its a little too late. We now take her to the potty when she says poop and we do a ceremonial butt wipe afterwards. She is 16 months.

We did the 3 day potty method a few days after she turned 2 - so 24 months. Prior to that we just sat on the potty for fun so she got used to it and it wasn't scary. She didn't necessarily show any signs that she was ready other than I felt that she was at an age that she could understand me. We didn't do a huge thing about throwing out diapers and putting on underwear. We just went bottomless and watched her like a hawk and put her on the potty anytime she started to go. And we would keep saying "pee pee goes in the potty". And she got one m&m for pee and 2 for poo which she loved. They day any partial pee in the potty is a success and I read it takes 10-15 partial successes for it to click. I wanted to quit after 2 days bc I didn't see any big improvement but sure enough after the 11th partial success she got it and started going on the potty herself. I kept her potty chair in the playroom. I read the 3 day potty method on babycenter's website

I'm in the same boat as you @Mrs. Pen, and don't think my 23 month old is ready yet. He's peed and pooped a handful of times on the potty, but it's been right before a bath and after dinner, which is when I know he'll go. But he doesn't ever say that he has to go or even that he's already gone. He also doesn't seem to mind having a dirty diaper. So w're just playing it by ear and letting him call the shots. We'll keep the potty around and just ease him into it at this point. I'll be happy if he's fully trained by 3.

Potty training comes in parts, which I didn't realize until i went through it. First part is to teach them to pee on the potty, which is actually the easy part. The challenging part is to teach them to go before they have the urge...we're still working on that part.
