We had a routine as soon as we came home from the hospital. I wanted to keep her feeding schedule because it helped make things predictable and kept her from snacking. At 6 weeks, I implemented a wake up time. The nap routine followed. I think when you go to work, it will start falling into place. You'll have a set wake up time and a bed time and naps will happen on intervals at daycare

I was mindful of the last time he ate and slept, but didn't really start any sort of schedule until 12 weeks. Even then, the only thing I tried to at the same time every day was bedtime.

@sunshine83: Exactly this for me too! I wa so worried about it, but within a couple of months, it just happened on its own. I just fine tuned it.

We stared doing easy around 7 wks. As for scheduled naps, we didn't do that til maybe 7 months? Feedings were never scheduled, they always depended on nap schedule/his mood.

Don't worry yourself with a routine. I was so worried about this and honestly it's way too hard in the beginning. Just go with the flow, enjoy your baby, and in time a schedule will develop on its own. The only thing you want to make sure is set is their circadian rhythm so they're not wanting to be awake and play at 3 am!

I went totally by her FOREVER so I am an oddball out when i say at about a year. That's when I started putting her down for naps and bedtime started to be at the same time. I needed her to be a little more flexible in her first year, and it worked out fine for us :) But, I was also home with her and I had the time to just do what seemed right by her.

Oh and I feed in demand, but I do mind the clock to help me figure out if she is fussy because she is hungry or just fussy because she's a baby.

C is six weeks and we don't really have a schedule yet. I'm mindful that she will be tired by two hours after she wakes up but sometimes, or rather, often, she just won't go to sleep. Our evening and early morning routines have fallen into a schedule though- start the feeding and swaddling process by nine at the latest. She's usually awake for the day between six and seven, down for the first nap less than two hours after that. Then it's a free for all. :(

around 8 or 9 weeks i tried to get a bedtime/morning routine started in preparation for going back to work. i think i also tried to get LO on a set feeding schedule around that time. naps were and continue to be all over the place (LO is 8 months old).

I think at around 3 months, maybe a little before, I started doing a nap every two hours. I still fed on demand, but doing the scheduled naps really helped. I feel like we have a pretty good schedule now at almost 5 months. It took awhile though.

I started doing the EASY routine around 3 weeks, though I felt like I had no idea what I was doing until closer to 5-6 weeks when it really started working for us. And then around 11 weeks was when he just naturally fell into a feeding schedule that made sense, but his naps are still all over the place. I just know to put him down for a nap after he's been up for 2 hours, but there's no real schedule for his naps.

ETA: Xander's 6.5 months - we feed him every 3 hours and naps are after 2 hours of awake time. He's always in bed by 7:30.

We are only at 3 weeks so I am not jumping to do it right this second but I am wondering when I should start. We do have a set bedtime. i.e. we try to get her to start heading to bed at around 8 and hope and pray we are as close to that time as possible... the past few nights it has been more like midnight/1 am... ugh.... She is up by 9 every day though without exception! We still feed on demand (I just started pumping yesterday so we will see how that helps) and she naps when she is tired and is awake when she is awake. No schedule there either.

When did you put LO on a nap/feeding schedule? How did you decide what the schedule should look like? I will be returning to work in a little over a month and want to have her somewhat set by then.
