I let my son chew on his toothbrush while I am changing his diaper. He also gets a swipe every night, but not with any toothpaste.

I saw the baby banana online, does it have bristles, I can't tell.

We started brushing before bed with a fingertip brush and Xylitol gel the day he got his first tooth. He still wakes for a dream feed each night and after that we wipe with a Xylitol tooth wipe (he hates this big time!). Our pediatric dentist (Dr. Yum in Chicago) saw him for the first time at 9 months and recommended a toothbrush called the Baby banana, which we now use and like. Our dentist even recommends using those individual floss sticks once per day for all babies, but we haven't done it yet. His second dentist appt is scheduled for when he is 15 months old.

We started regularly brushing her teeth with a brush and toothpaste around 1 year, before that we had this little rubber one with this starter tooth gel stuff.

Not until she had teeth and then we started doing it twice a day with toothpaste. I never wiped the gums either. I took my daughter to a pediatric dentist at 15 months and he said brushing is not a huge deal yet. Try to do it but don't stress if you can't. I asked because my daughter goes through phases of not allowing a toothbrush anywhere near her mouth so I was a little concerned.

Ummm.... my baby girl is 3 1/2 months and our doctor never mentioned it. Maybe I'll bring it up at her 4 month apt.

We were slack, lol. We didn't start REALLY brushing 'til he was about 18 months. We tried before that a few times, but he did NOT like it. We didn't start toothpaste 'til around 2 1/2, and even then it was just a tiny smear. Once he got the hang of rinsing and spitting, we increased to a small dab. There for a couple months, he wanted to brush his teeth like 5 or 6 times a day, 'cause he had so much fun rinsing and spitting. Lol, boys.

Ok, so I feel like our pediatrician told us to start wiping down DS's gums with a washcloth back at like 2 months. We never did.
DS has had two teeth for a couple months, but we never really got into brushing them when he was exclusively BF. Now we've started solids and we've gotten pretty good about doing it twice a day (morning and evening) but I haven't yet used any toothpaste the way that our pediatrician suggested.
When did you all start brushing teeth and using toothpaste? Do you do it twice a day? More often? Less often?
