We could hear crying, but not stirring. When we moved him to his crib at night at 1 month we finally went out and bought one. </p> <p>We have a relatively small single level house, but my husband and I both need a fan to sleep, so it makes the baby hard to hear without a monitor. I would check the monitor so I wouldn't have to go to the kid for making sounds... Totally worth it in my opinion... I sleep w the babies right now and check the monitors when they make noises. If they r doing so while sleeping, I just go back to bed... Otherwise, I get up and take care of their needs... Also very useful when I'm not w the babies.... And she's a light sleeper like her daddy so I'm glad we did, we all get so much better sleep this way, which was surprising to me because I thought I'd never want her to go to her own room.</p> <p>We started using the monitor when she went to her own room. I'm really debating on when to buy it exactly. We plan to room share until LO is 5 months or so maybe a little longer. LO does have a nursery with his/her crib in it that we will use at some point. I do plan to put LO in crib for naps whenever I feel he/she is old enough (maybe 2-3) months. Our main level has a really open set up and from our living room, bedroom, and kitchen we will clearly be able to hear if LO is crying. Did you use your monitor right away? Or did you wait to use till LO got older? </p>
