carpet + low bed + annoyance at having them = we took them off at 2y3m, I think, maybe even earlier.

He falls out of bed sometimes but no injuries, just needs help getting back into bed since there's no nightlight.

Thanks all! At this point, it seems worth trying to get rid of the rails and if we have to put them back up, we will. We have carpet and the bed is low, so hopefully those are good enough safeguards.

We removed the pool noodle type barrier shortly after he turned 3. He’s not a wild sleeper though. He has fallen out of bed a couple of times but the bed is very low to the ground and we have carpet. When he fell out he fell back asleep on the floor, so I really don’t think it disturbed him much.

We have a small trundle underneath and had it out when we transitioned him at not quite 2 to the twin bed. DS only fell out 2-3 times and then has not had a problem. Otherside is against th wall. We never had rails.

We never used them, as we had very padded carpets and a low bed, and thought it would be easier to sneak away without the rails up when we were lying down with her. We used a rolled up quilt under the fitted sheet for a while, and now we use a very thin, cylindrical pillow (about pool noodle size, but softer). She's rolled out a few times, but not for several months. She'll be 3 in November.

We moved my son to a twin mattress on the floor when he was 2, moved it to a frame when he was 3 and had the rail on for about 6 months (other side was against the wall). I got tired of changing his sheets with it so I just took it off. He has fallen out of bed quite a few times since then (he is 6 now) but I just put a body pillow on the floor by his bed to cushion the fall.

My three year old has been sleeping in her twin bed for about a year. We put her rails on the sides of the bed since we moved her into the twin bed straight from the crib and didn’t want her to roll off since she’s kind of a wild sleeper. When is it typically safe to remove the rails? The bed is fairly low to the ground but I’ve also read arm and shoulder breaks from rolling out of a bed is a really common kid injury. But I don’t want to go overboard with protective measures if unnecessary and having the rails on the bed is pretty annoying when making the bed or trying to get in with our daughter to read.
