My son spent a night at his grandparents' house when he was 12.5 months old. I will be away on a business trip for three nights when he is 14.5 months old.

He was EBF, and I hate pumping so I pretty much refused to pump for any reason other than (1) nipple relief during the first eight weeks or (2) going to work. Therefore, overnight visits would have been virtually impossible until I was willing to skip the bedtime and morning feed. For me, that didn't happen until he was a year old.

Are you planning to BF? That makes time away more difficult! DS spent first night away at 13 mo (With IL's to allow us a date night). DD at 11 mo because we had to travel for a funeral.

Lo is 2.5 and I haven't spent the night away from her. The first time I do will be when I have baby in August. Grandparents are close by and have mentioned having her for sleepovers since she was born but I don't see the point yet.

LO is 12 months and I've never been away from her overnight. DH has, for work trips and once a wedding out of town, but I haven't. The idea of sleeping without worrying about having to listen for her waking up is super appealing, but I'm still not comfortable with it yet...

Maybe 4-5 months with each son. They stayed at my sister's house. My mom also lives there. We did it to have a date night. I wanted to do it early on because I knew that one day DS1 would have to stay while I delivered his sibling. I wanted him to feel comfortable there.

We haven't yet and she is 29 months. The first time will be when I have #2 but we are hoping DH will be able to spend the night with her still.

We don't have family here so that is probably why we haven't left her overnight for date nights etc but, even if family lived closer, I think I would prefer not to leave her overnight until she is older, five or so. Grandparents wanting a sleepover is not a good enough reason for me. That said, I used to love staying at my gran's house so I definitely don't want to rob my kids of that experience either.

No sleepovers just for sleepovers sake, but my first night away was a 2 night women's retreat when she was 7 months old. DH was with her though.

Her first night completely with somebody else was around a year when my mom stayed with her at our house and we house-sat for a friend.

We had one time when I was so sick that I had to stay in the hospital and DH was out of town. For that trip, she was with my in-laws but DH got back the night after I was admitted.

That said, other than for 9 months while my son was under 2, we've never lived close to ANY family.

At 5 months we went on a vacation without him. It was heavenly. My mom flew in to watch him. I'm not ready to let him sleep at someone else's house, but I am fine with them staying at our place. It's just too much stress to schlep his stuff, and I know he's comfy in his own environment.
I'm going on a girls trip this weekend and he's staying with DH (7 months).

LO is almost 3 and either DH or I have stayed with her every night. The first time I stayed away overnight, she was 22 months old and I went away for two nights to a conference. DH has been away for a night or two here and there but one of us has always been home with her. I would be willing now to let her stay overnight with either set of grandparents if she is 100% healthy.

When LO was 9 months old, we went to a wedding in another state and made a getaway of it for 5 days (4 nights). It was very hard but I am very glad we did it. She was in excellent hands with my mom who she saw every day of her life until then, so it was much harder on us than her. I would not have left her with anyone else. We had an amazing time and it was well worth it.

4 months, I had a business trip. I also had to go away when she was 8, 10, and 12 months. Those trips actually weren't so bad, even though I missed her, because she was fine with taking a bottle from DH and I had a big stash of frozen breastmilk. Now that we've bottle-weaned but she's still nursing, it's actually harder because when she wants milk, I'm the only one who can satisfy her (she won't take a sippy if she wants to nurse). I had to go away for one night a couple weeks ago and she did fine, but I have another multi-day trip coming up in a few weeks and I'm worried about that one. Also not looking forward to having to pump when I haven't done that in months, but if I don't I'll be in serious pain!

ETA: we've never both been away from her overnight, we always arrange our work travel so we don't have to both be away at the same time. And we don't have any family nearby, so sleepovers with grandparents aren't an option.

Last month when DS was 16m was our first time. We were visiting my parents in FL during the week of my birthday and we decided to do an overnight in a hotel. It was amazing. We don't really have anyone close by to do it, and first the first ~8 months of his life he was breast fed, so it would've been more of a hassle to have him stay an extended amount of time with someone else.

If my parents lived close by I could see DS going for sleepovers there. I would relish the opportunity to sleep as late as I wanted. But I think it's weird for people to be anxious to take an infant overnight. Especially if you're bf-ing.

My 9 mo, never.

My oldest - once at 15 mo for a work trip. There was a mouse in my room so I didn't sleep.

At 17 mo, he went to the grandparents so that we could have a weekend away because I was 35 weeks pregnant. I didn't sleep then either - had false labor for a few hours one night.

Then the next week, for two nights, when I delivered LO2.

Honestly, people make such a big deal about cutting the cord and getting away from your children, but I'm kinda meh about it. For one, LO2 is still breastfed so it's not really an option right now. For another, I haven't slept well when I have gotten away, haha. But we just have our routine down and I don't usually feel a need.

But I would love a weekend away after LO2 weans!

I will not likely be a fan of the idea of baby sleepovers with the family just because as long as she is breast fed. There is a workshop I'm interested in attending when she is 7 months old, but I would have the option to come home.

For us he was about 4 weeks old. We don't have family in town and didn't have anyone stay with us, but a sweet friend offered to take him for us for a night so we could get some sleep and spend some time together. We dropped him off at dinner time and picked him up around 9 the next morning. I am so so so glad we ripped off the band aid and did it early. It was much harder the next time, when we left him with my parents so we could go to a wedding. He was perfectly fine, and we got a much needed break.

We haven't yet at 10.5 months but I totally would take a night away if LO slept more consistently. I was hoping we could do a night away for our anniversary when she was about 9 months old, but her sleep was just not consistent enough to put that responsibility on my mom (probably the only one who will do overnights with her for a good long time). I'm hoping that at some point this summer she'll be consistent and I can ask my mom to spend a night here and let DH and I go away for a night. We could really use a night away!

My daughter was about 2 months old the first time we took a weekend trip without her. My mother watched her at her house. She has had several sleepovers with her grammie since then, both for date nights and our travels. My son is only 7 weeks old, and I think it'll be a while before my mom offers to watch both kids overnight, so he'll likely be much older when I finally have a night without him.
