I started LO in a baby art class at 11 months. It was mostly fingerprinting. The teacher made her own edible paint. She had them paint on paper, aluminum foil, cardboard. We would strip the babies down to a onesie and just put a smock on them. The heat was turned up to make sure they weren't cold. The class was 45 minutes long but most of the babies lost interest after 15 minutes so we would wash up and have baby gym for the rest of the class. It was great because I didn't have to do any cleanup except for LO.

We have been finger painting since LO was 5 months old. But she doesn't put anything in her mouth. Try pudding painting with food coloring!

@regberadaisy: we bought her some for Easter, so she was about 15/16 months old. She's 19 months now and still just likes to roll it and squish it around. She doesn't build anything with it, if that's what you're asking.

Chloe is 19 months and I'm not brave enough to try finger paints yet. Maybe soon, and outside on the deck!

She LOVES play dough and coloring books. I love the crayola washable crayons. She's gotten crayon on her clothes, my couches and curtain panels & they really do wash off!

Chocolate pudding makes great finger paint...also vanilla with food coloring in it. DS was doing that at a year old.

We did finger painting at around 18 months, I'd strip down LO and plop him in his high chair. I'd squeeze some paint on the tray and he would go to town. We have the videos and they are hilarious to watch, he goes from not wanting to touch it to painting his body, lol.

Stickers are also great, started those around 15 months and he's still into them today at 2.5.

Oh, I also forgot, home made playdough. My son would love to stick things in it, so I'd spread some on his table, and he'd stick it with ziti.

I really want to start finger painting, etc with M soon. But she is 13 months and puts EVERYTHING in her mouth constantly. I know there's the option of non toxic paint but they are SO expensive!!

How old was your LO when you started art activities such as painting? How did you introduce it?
