It was great since he "got it". Any younger than that and family only is the way to go, in my opinion. I used it as an excuse to see my friends and threw an adult-friendly party (alcoholic drinks and tea sandwiches followed by pizza for the after party) that also included children's entertainment and birthday cake. We thought about inviting some of his daycare friends to his third, but we decided to make it a just the three of us family day...it'll be his last being an only child. (Either a family and friends party, or separate small parties for each group.) I'm especially interested to know if you did a family only first birthday party--my LO is turning 2 and I haven't decided if we're going to do anything with friends yet or not. Last year we kept it small and simple with just some family. </p>
