C is 26 months and still sleeps sans blanket. Either a sleep sack during the colder months or thicker PJs.

I don't worry about SIDS anymore, but she plays with A&A blankets/swaddles and calls them her "scapes" (capes). I gave her one a few months ago for naptime and she walked around her crib like a ghost... and then bumped into the side of her crib and wailed.

@LovelyPlum: I need to talk to daycare to see how she does there. H is so mobile in her sleep and normally sleeps face down on her knees. I wonder if she is doing that because she's cold?

I plan on adding flannel sheets to the bed this winter for an extra layer of warmth.

@avivoca: our daycare uses blankets, too.

We have used them for a while, once she outgrew her sleep sacks. She didn't need them much in the summer, though. Now we cover her legs with a fleece one after she falls asleep. She is not a very mobile sleeper, so it does not move much.

I want to say around 10 or 11 months, we started covering him with an A&A blanket (sometimes 2). I felt ok with that because it was SO lightweight. This winter we may use a heavier blanket (he'll be 2 in January).

We used a sleep sack until close to 18 months. Now she's two and falls asleep with a blanket but loses it quickly during the night so I can't really count on it for warmth anyway.

@catomd00: I "played" where's baby with my LO and a blanket to train him how to remove it from his face haha.

We are starting to phase in a blanket now at 15 months. He doesn't keep on for me (although he does at daycare) but I'd like to keep at it because once he's in a toddler bed it will be easier.

ETA- Last winter we used sleeps sacks and if blankets don't work out this winter I will be buying some more. We love the fleece halos. Right now since it's only somewhat chilly I've been doing fleece footed sleepers on their own.

For winter when he was under 1, we did fleece footed sleepers and maybe a sleep sack. After 1, he has a mid weight A&A toddler blanket. He's into jammies now, so trying to go back to the fleece footed sleeper will be hard if not impossible. I got thermal pj tops and fleece bottoms for him.

Before I let him have anything in his crib, I tested him to make sure he could pull it off of his face. So when he was awake, I would put the blanket over his face. If he immediately pulled it off, I was comfortable that he could do so in the middle of the night. I should add that I started with the AA security blankets.

However, we always used sleep sacks for warmth b/c he constantly kicks off his blankets now at almost 2. I'm going to have to invest in a lot of fleece footie pj's b/c he will not allow us to put him in a sleep sack anymore after not using one all summer.

She slept with a blanket from birth (bad mommy!) until she moved to her crib and moved around too much for it. then we switched to a sleep sack, but now she's in between sizes so we dropped the sleep sack and tried using a blanket again, but it's just not worth it - she is all over the place and it wakes her up. SO we weren't worried about sids, but i have a very mobile baby and i can't imagine she'll ever sit still enough for a blanket lol. we're hoping the heat will come on in our building soon and solve the problem!

last fall LO was about 10 months old and when the weather got cold enough, we put him in a footed sleeper and fleece sleep sack. this year i'm not sure what we're going to do because even though we put an A&A blanket over him to begin with, it never stays on.

we have used a vornado heat fan in the past (the HVAC in our old place was screwy and LO's room got no heat if the door was closed) and really liked it.

LO was born in Nov and we swaddled her in a warm fuzzy blanket from day 1. First it was in the rnp and then in the crib. Now that she's older we no longer swaddle but she still sleeps w her fuzzy blankets and she loves them. They are her comfort and although they never stay on her and she moves around a good bit, she's never gotten tangled up in one. Usually she'll end up hugging it or nestled into it with it between her legs or draped across her mid section.

A knit blanket with holes is probably fine at this point. I have a minky blanket in my 7 month olds crib because she loves rubbing her face on it. I tuck it in the corner though so only a small portion is exposed. She also has a minky lovey. I started with naps to see how she did. This might sound weird but I also would put her blanky over her face to see how well she could get it off! She sleeps on top of the tucked in blanket but I am not comfortable yet untucking it at night. I would be comfortable with a knit blanket though since the holes make it breathable.

My only issue with blankets is that most kids will kick them off and if its winter- brrrrr - that why I preferred using fleece footed sleepers over their pjs

Xander's 18 months and we let him sleep with A&A swaddle blankets. So not really much for warmth. But he's also all over the place during the night, so a blanket wouldn't stay on him anyway! We let him have an A&A swaddle blanket probably around 7-8 months though (and he used to wrap them around his head...)
