I started maternity leave the day I delivered. But, I was on bedrest from 30.5-37.5 weeks and worked from home during that time. I went back to the office at 37.5 weeks and delivered at 38.5 weeks. During that week, I worked mostly half days. I was having contractions throughout and it was a little distracting to say the least...and I was physically very taxed from having been on bedrest so long. I was very fortunate to have a flexible work situation.

Initially I was going to start it at 37 weeks during my school's Christmas break- but I was bored to death and my work really needed help, so I worked two extra weeks. On the Friday of 38 weeks I felt too crappy to keep driving so I told them I would not be in on Monday.

My water broke and my son was born the next day at 39 weeks, 1 day!

I worked until 6 pm on Wednesday and went into labor that night at 10. It was 6 days past my due date. I wanted to save all my PTO for after LO was here!

I'm working until 36 weeks. My workplace closes for a week at Christmas and then its only two more weeks until my due date. I know I'm not going to want to go back to work at that stage. But I'm also in Canada, so I get 52 weeks off, plus a couple weeks of holiday time I'll be using.

@Mrs. Blue: I'm just now 27 weeks. 10 weeks to full-term for twins! I'd say the past two weeks, I've noticed a definite increase in my discomfort. :( At my doctor's appointment last week, they said I'm measuring as if I were 34 weeks along.

@sunshineandsushi: I feel the same way about wanting to save my time for after, but it would be nice to be able to just rest and relax at home for a bit. How far along are you again? When did you start feeling really uncomfortable?

@Mrs. Blue: This has been one of the major things I have thought about throughout my pregnancy! Ideally, I don't want to stop working any sooner than I have to because that leaves me with more time after the babies are here, but at the same time, it's getting so hard to move around. In a perfect world, I'd love to stop working til the end of my pregnancy! But, that's not gonna happen. ;)

This is a big question mark in our pregnancy because my work wants to ensure that I have two weeks of overlap to train my temporary replacement. When I ask my doctor, she basically said if they want to guarantee that, they better hire someone now since a twin pregnancy is so volatile with how early I'll go into labor and if I'll have to be on bed rest. I have no idea what to do. Le sigh.

I worked up to the very end - finished up my Friday, went into labor Sunday night, and had L on Monday! The last week at work was really hard, both mentally and physically, but I'm glad I stuck it through b/c that was more time I got to spend with L.

I had my LO @ 42 weeks and worked up until 6 hours before I had him. Labor started the second I punch out of the time clock at work. I would have loved to stop by week 38 because I was on my feet all day long working 12 hour shifts, but I was broke as a joke!

I'm pretty positive I'm pregnant now and if so- with this one I will probably work until the end as well because we are such a small company so we don't get maternity benefits. Boooo!

I think I would like to work until I deliver. I would like to save all of the time off to be with my baby. The one thing that would be really embarrassing would be my water breaking while at work.

Although, if I was being induced, I might take a couple days off to get some last minute stuff done before the baby.

I think I'll work until I go into labor. However, I'll probably work from home starting two weeks before my due date or so, only because I work 45 minutes south of my house, and my DH works 30 min NE of my house, so we are pretty far apart if I did go into labor, and pretty far from my hospital as well.

I didn't get maternity leave until I was in the hospital. I didn't even have the option to take leave before my son was born. If the time you take before your LO is born doesn't take away from the time you would have after the birth, I would say go for it. It would be nice to just have some time to yourself but you might go a little crazy waiting. : )

I'm due May 27 (a Sunday). Assuming all goes well, I'm thinking that I will work through May 25 (a Friday). If I go a little late, I'll have some extra time to myself. If I go on time or a little early, that's just extra time with the baby!

The guidance at my former company was that you go out 2 months before the due date. I was due in December, which meant the guidance was I ended work at the end of September. I had to get my manager to waive the requirement and I stayed an extra month, because there was no way I could occupy myself with 10 weeks to go before the birth.

I am an NICU RN, so I work right down the hall from labour and delivery, so I have considered working right until I go into labour, but my boss doesn't love that idea because it makes it harder to fill me position when I am gone (because she wouldn't have that much notice to fill the shifts). She is starting to ask me to consider choosing a date to go off, and if I really feel great, I can continue to pick up the odd last minute shift. I am thinking I might go off at 38 weeks, and then picking up shifts now and then when I feel good.
