I feel the same way! I sing the wheels on the bus to him when he is awake. I've put him on his play mat too but feel kind of dumb bc he literally has no idea where he is or what to do. Haha! He is 5 wks old :)

Haha I remember thinking the same thing. Do whatever feels right! We did lots of reading and walking outside (still do) but it wasn't until 7 weeks or so that he paid much attention :)

I don't believe in 'playing' with children at that age. I think that hearing your voice, being near/with you, and looking at the world are about all the fun a baby that age can handle. Until she was a few months old, I wore my baby, I had her next to me while I read, I basically carried on with my life, with her on my chest. I started giving her things to grab when she started grabbing at 3 months-ish, but she didn't really start 'playing' until 6 months, maybe?

Talking and singing *is* play at that age so you are doing great!

We started tummy time once her cord fell off and I used rattles etc for that to try to encourage her to pick her head up.

Closer to 3/4 weeks I think I started putting a rattle in her hand to see what she would do, but I think it was more for my own amusement since she did not know it was there.

We always played, but play was different when she was a newborn. It usually just involved showing her some objects or talking to her or singing. These days we get to play for real, and it is SO much fun!

I think maybe about 2-3 weeks, I put LO on an activity mat with a toy dangling above him. He liked looking at them and allowed him to move his arms & legs freely. He also loved to watch our dog walk around. I'd also put him in a bouncy chair within view of the ceiling fan and he LOVED that.

He was about 9-10 weeks before he really started getting interactive with anything. He's nearly 5 months now and will play with literally *anything* for long amounts of time!

I remember feeling this exact way. It was just the two of us alone all day and it was weird to not interact. I started describing the littlest details. One day I spent 15 minutes telling him all about my lunch ("This is a sandwich. It's got bread and meat and cheese. Bread comes from wheat. That's a plant....")

Do whatever you feel is right. I don't think playing can ever begin too early; especially if you keep it simple. If your baby isn't fussy, putting her on her back on a blanket with a mirror or fan or your face nearby can be plenty of play!

Not til around 8/9 wks maybe? And it didn't actually feel like playing til 11wks or so. Before that, just being alive is enough stimulation! :) also, I feel like a million ftms on here have started threads just like this (myself included) so you're not the only one who worried about this!

Sadie is only 12 days old, so this may seem ridiculous, but I'm wondering how much interaction I should be having each day. She's having more and more awake time each day, and I usually just sing or talk to her while she stares at me. Sometimes I'll make silly faces or move around and say her name so she'll follow me. We have tons of toys, rattles, and play gym, but I'm not sure when to introduce them. She obviously can't grab for them or "play" with them yet, but I feel like I should be doing more with her while she's awake. She's pretty alert already. When did you start introducing toys and playing with your LO?
