We did puffs around 8 months bc we needed some snacks to occupy her during a cross-country flight. We did Cheerios around 7 months.

we've never tried puffs or melts (LO is 10.5 months), but he really likes rice krispies!

they are tiny, but stick to his fingers :) might be a little small for a 6 month old, but something to keep in mind for later! they are cheap, and it takes them a while to eat a small handful :) (less empty carbs for baby) hehehehee

i want to try melts! haven't seen them at the grocery store here, though. might not be looking clearly enough.

We waited until he was crawling with belly off the ground, so a little after 7.5 months. He gagged on yogurt melts and it completely scared me so I haven't bought them since. Puffs on the other hand - he's obsessed with! And they melt so fast that I've never had to worry about them.

@Beebug: yeah they melt...the puffs kind of stick around but the yogurt melts (and there are fruit and veggie melts) just melt. I would have some a few years back when I use to babysit a 9m old ;)

@TurtleDoves: Yeah my doctor was pushing at 4 but we decided to hang on until 6 and then go for purees... she was going on about cheerios and puffs. But now I'm totally excited to get started : )

Hmmm.....I didn't even think about these yet. C's grab and pinching is unreal, but I still feel like I would be scared with her putting these in her mouth, do they dissolve/melt or need chewing?!

I started giving them to DD soon after 6 months, but she wasn't good enough with her pincher grasp until later to actually eat them effectively. When she was little, she used to just eat them like a bird, directly out of my hand. She still loves to eat like a bird, if I let her do it!

i cut it into cubes (small like the size of your pinky nail), which is super annoying bc sweet potato can be hard to cut through raw! but it cooks much faster. and then i just microwave it 6-8 minutes. you'll know its done when you can smash a piece easily between your fingers. i hope that helps. my LO loooves sweet potatoes!

@jmarionsmith: do you just bake it the regular way then dice it? or do you cut the cubes from the raw potatoes and then boil the cubes?

@travelgirl1: wow! We started purees about 3 weeks ago at a little over 5m, even though my doctor said to start at 4m. But man...that seemed early.
We plan to go full blown at 6m though:)

the day he turned 6 months! diced sweet potato is a great food to practice their pincer grasp because it's firm enough for them to grab but soft enough it mashes when they gum it.

i'm sure my pediatrician will tell me all about this in 9 days, at our 6m appointment, but I am going grocery shopping tomorrow and I want to pick some up some puffs & melts. Is it too early? Can you tell i'm excited?

Also: are there any other starter food you'd recommend.? We're not BLW ...just want him to practice his Pincer Grasp & ...its fun to introduce new things and see baby's reaction.
