We started a nap schedule around 5 months but he still napped on me. At 7 months, we nap trained and he started taking his first nap in his crib. He still naps on me for his 2nd nap (at 8.5 months).

I follow sleep cues to an extent, but he almost always takes his first nap 3 hours after he wakes for the day, and his second nap 3 hours after he wakes from the first.

We did the exact same as @lamariniere: starting at about 8 weeks and usually had her down within 45-60 minutes of waking up. My LO had a really short awake time in the beginning.

4 months is when we would put her down and she would put herself to sleep, after sleep training.

We did EASY starting around 4 weeks, but basically, Xander would just fall asleep whenever he was tired, regardless of where he was. Eventually, by 3-4 months, he was in a pretty clear 2-hour routine, where he'd be awake for 2 hours before needing a nap, so we'd just put him down for a nap around the 2 hour mark. Around 8-9 months, he started fighting that and seemed to be able to go longer between naps and has been on a 3-hour routine (we put him down for a nap after he's been up for 3 hours). And around 11-12 months, he started to be able to go 3-4 hours between naps.

So generally, I go by time unless he's obviously tired beforehand!

DD is 13 weeks. I've been trying to get her on a loose nap schedule since about 8 weeks. Usually for her she's tired after about 45-60min of alert wakefulness. Naps work about half of the time.

I think it was around 10-12 weeks. She stopped being able to nap in the swing/bouncer because she was too alert and interested in everything around her. So that's when we started doing all crib naps.

ETA: We watched the clock and her tired cues. Her max awake time at that age was 1 hour 15 min - 1 hour 30 min.

Naps worked themselves out for us when R was just about 6 months old. Before 6 months old, she napped whenever and wherever. Now she goes down in her crib twice a day around the same times.

Right now we just let LO nap wherever she happens to fall asleep. When did you start putting your LO down for naps? Did you put them down when they seemed tired?
