we started from the day we brought her home, but not every day. my mom found this bookworm light up book that sings the lyrics that are printed. she flipping loves the lights! but normal books are great, even if she can't pay attention much. i like @Mrs Green Grass: idea! that's a good one!

I also started from birth. He doesn't focus and sometimes I stop when he really doesn't seem into I, but he still hears the language which I think is huge. I actually am thinking about starting to read an adult book out loud so I'm still reading for me. I think I read someone else doing that.

We started some reading really early...a matter of weeks I think, but started a bedtime routine, which includes reading 2 books, around 4 months. He usually pays attention, but sometimes (like last night) is trying to roll out of my lap and fussing, but I still think its good to get him exposure to books every day.

We started as soon as we brought LO home. I didn't always read him baby/picture books, though. During the newborn stage, I figured it was more about hearing the sounds of English, so he heard a lot of the newspaper and whatever book I was reading, too. :) I mostly read those things to him while nursing.

we made it part of her bedtime routine consistenly at around 10 weeks. At first I would sit her up on my lap and she was SUPER uninterested ... then I saw Mrs. Tricycle's post where her lo and dh were reading on their backs with the book above them ..... I tried it that way and she LOVED it. She is super focused on the pictures and coos and kicks her legs. It's seriously become my favorite thing to do with her. {She LOVES "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "Eating the Alphabet" ... I think because the colors are so vivid against the white background}

With my son, we started reading to him at around 3 or 4 months. But he's always been fascinated by books. My DD is 8 months and could care less about being read to. =\ We still try but he usually just flips the pages or tries to eat it.

We started reading while I was pregnant and we continued. At 8 months, he loves books that are beyond his age group. He actually claps during reading time because he's so excited. I felt silly reading to him early on, but now I don't regret it.

We've been reading to LO since he was born. in the really early days we were just reading whatever book we were reading or the newspaper to him so he could hear our voices more.... We started reading kid books to him around 2 months old - so we still read those, and sometimes my husband still reads the paper to him, ha.... but he's definitely more interested in the kid books now to look at the pictures & listen to the rhythms.

Since week 1! It's never consistent and not every night still (4 months), but he loves it when we do and stares at the pictures and responds back to us too! :) We have to make more time for it as part of the nighttime routine... but sometimes he just wants the boob post-bath! :P

We started the night they came home from the hospital! At first, I think, it's more about allowing them to listen to the sound/tone/cadence of your voice.
Our LO's are now four months, and we read to them at every nap and bedtime routine, as well as a couple of times throughout the day. They still pretty much just enjoy listening to the change in our vocal tones, but now they're taking interest in the pictures, too!
I say go for it. If nothing else, it's a great thing to add into any bedtime routine you may be establishing!
