10 weeks. Though she was one of the fussy ones and made it through only a few services her first year. Still, 10 weeks. We'll likely do the same with #2. Can you start volunteering in the children's ministry? Ask for a copy of their child protection policy?

I can totally understand being paranoid considering your history- I would be too :(

We started leaving DS in the nursery at 8 months and I was really nervous at first! I am also a SAHM and he'd only ever been with family. He was hesitant at first but he's 20 months now and in the next class up and LOVES it! We started leaving DD at 4 months and she's always done well too. It means so much to us that DH and I can sit in service together and actually take it all in!

First off, I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you as a child. That would make me super paranoid and cautious as well :(
We started dropping my LO off at 20 months. I stay home with her full time and the only people that have watched her are my Mom and sister, so I was terrified at the beginning. My husband stayed with her the first time and after that, she was fine to go on her own. Now she's in the 2 year old class and will say bye to us and run into the room with no hesitation. It's nice that she gets to play with other children her age and that we can listen to the service. Good luck with your decision.

Can you stay with her in the nursery? It might help to ease your worries if one of you could stay with her a bit until everyone is comfortable. Also, you mentioned the windows. Is there a spot you could sit with a good view of the nursery and still be in/hear the service?

We LOVE our church. We've been there for over 10 years now, but it's quite a drive from our home. It's fairly close to my parents and we could easily drop off LO there to go to service, but we want her to also "know" church. When she was younger, it was super easy cause she would sleep through the service or just be happy in a carrier. Now at almost 14 months, she of course will not stay still or want to sit or listen to anything we say, lol. My husband usually takes her and walks the halls or hangs out at the coffee shop with her while I stay in the service, but I know he also misses being there for the service, even though he can hear the entire thing. They do have a wonderful children's program there and we know lots of the volunteers as well. Everyone is screened, the area has HUGE windows and there are no full walls, adults are to stay in completely visible areas when they are with children. Both of us struggle with being ok leaving her there. I know part of it is because the only person who has ever watched her for a few hours is my mom. I was sexually abused as a little girl and I know that makes me even more paranoid. Sigh. Someone tell me it will be ok. We keep going back and forth on this issue...one day we say we will leave her and then when the time comes, we're just chasing her around church. Baby number 2 will be arriving this fall and I can't imagine trying to keep up with both of them, so we have to figure something out.
