I never dilated at all before going into labor with #1 or #2.

Wishing you a speedy delivery!

Thanks all. So far it seems like it is all over the place. Some people did dilate earlier and some didn't.

I am not so much concerned about the correlation between dilation and when I'll go into labor as I suspect that I will go into labor around my due date since I was late with #1. But just curious if this dilating earlier thing is typical. I am happy already that I have a favorable cervix as they have been talking about inducing me or maybe just sweeping me a week or so early due to age and size and whatnot. At least my cervix is already "soft and pliable" and starting to open. Also, it's great news to dilate early so labor is quicker!

I wasn't dilated more than a fingertip with either of my babies when my water broke and was in labor. I actually went to my doctor a few hours before my water broke with DD, and she indicated that she thought it was distinctly possible that it was going to be a while before I went into labor.

Ds- born at 34 weeks

With DD at 36 weeks I was a loose 1. I had DD two days later, my water broke and I was still a loose 1. My water breaks prematurely though.

For my first, they never checked and he made it to his scheduled c-sec date.

For my second, I dilated from 0-2cm within 15 minutes at 38w6d. I had him 30 minutes later (c-sec).

I was 1 cm at 3y weeks with my second and stayed that way until 39. I declined a check at 40 and went into labor at 40+5. I hadn't been dilated at all when I was induced at 41+1 with my first.

For my first, I was 0cm and 100% effaced at 40 weeks and spontaneously went into labor four days later.

For my second I was around 0.5cm starting at 36 weeks. I got up to a "loose 2cm" and 70% effaced at 41+2 and had to be induced at 41+3. I was 3cm and 70% when they started my induction.

I never got checked with #2 until contractions started and I had quite a bit of blood. I think I was 1 or 2 cm after several hours of contractions. I would guess it was closed up tight prior to that!

With DS1 I was a fingertip dilated from weeks 37-40 and then finally 1 cm at 40+3.

Today at 36 weeks with #2, I am 1cm, and 50% effaced. She said I'm a lot softer this week. Sounds like it's probably common to dilate earlier the second time and I know it doesn't mean anything as far as spontaneous labor, but just curious about others' second time experiences.
