We've been using a blanket at naps since 1 year or so. We still just use the sleep sack at night. I'll probably add a blanket in the winter b/c our house gets really cold, and I hate having to put her in 3 layers of clothes and a heavy sleep sack every night. Our big problem at almost 1.5 years is still that DD moves all around her crib at night, so I imagine she'll kick off her blankets almost immediately.

Our pedi told us it's find to add blankets now that she's over 1 year.

LO still sleeps with a sleepsack at 12.5 months. Personally, I'm not comfortable with blankets in the crib quite yet. Maybe later this winter when he's closer to 18 months. Until then, we'll stick with the sleepsack.

E has slept with an A&A swaddle blanket since 7-8 months. He uses it as a lovey though and doesn't usually cover himself with it. I probably won't start letting him sleep with an actual blanket until close to 2.

We've used a blanket since LO was 9 months or so. I tuck it into the foot of the bed so she can't get it over her face. She always kicks it off though.

Around 9 months. We used and still use the AA dream blanket and DS is 2.5. What I like is that it is highly breathable like the swaddles and since it is so think, I feel like the risk of it getting tangled up around DS is fairly low. In the winter we do a fleece sleep sack + dream blanket.

@pinkcupcake: My son has never used a sleep sack and kicks off the blanket regardless of the fact that he always sleeps (at least initially) under a blanket. Last winter though I found if I gave him a bigger blanket (say bigger than toddler but a tad smaller than twin) he stayed under it longer. My LO is only a tad older than yours. It will be interesting to see if he pulls the blanket up this winter when he gets cold!

Both LOs have been covered with/ slept with a blanket from the very beginning and the swaddle was only used at night. The rest of the time they were usuall just bundled since both kids were born in that chilly winter to spring time of year (which mean the muslin blankets were way too thin). I've never had a problem even with the thicker blankets and we've never used sleep sacks. But that's just what I'm comfortable with. And that's what it all boils down to :)

I also like to live dangerously - use 'real' bumpers instead of the breathable ones; my toddler has a pillow (and has had one since 1o months) in his crib; stuffed animals in cribs; etc.Rebel mom ;)

C started at 10 months. She loves her blanket and sleeps under it. Our house is just too drafty for her not to have one and she hates the sleepsack now.

I just introduced one now (in her crib) at 14 months. But she always had one on while we used to co-sleep. It never stays on her though. She's a fussy sleeper and sleep sacks don't work for us.

@shopaholic: my 18 month old still uses just a sleep
Sack. I'm thinking about transitioning her to a blanket when it starts getting chillier later this month. I'm just afraid she will kick it off (she doesn't know how to use a blanket since she's never had one) and she will be cold...

@Mrs. Bee: I agree! We have ALL these blankets though! LG, A&A Dream Blankets, silk comforters, knit blankets. I guess by the time I'm comfortable using them without supervision, she'll be too tall for them.

@shopaholic: he never keeps his blanket on! so i keep the room warm enough that he doesn't need a blanket (at least 74.... I like it warm!).

olive sleeps with a sleep sack, her lovey (a burp cloth since she was around 8 months), and a sock filled with rice (that i put on her back and helps her sleep because she thinks it's my hand).

I know your lo is way younger than olive, but even at 1 year I didn't feel comfortable using a blanket. I only started using it when we traveled and it was chilly (22 months), and only the Aden and Anais blankets because they're breathable. Charlie never used a blanket until he was at least 26 months. Better safe than sorry I say!

@Mrs. Bee: Does Charlie keep his blanket on/covered? I think K likes the feel of the A&A blankets too. But I'm too scared at night to give it to her. Even her AngelDear lovey, I go back and forth. Once I saw it covering her entire face in the monitor and I freaked out! I wonder when I'll be lax enough not to worry. My friend is okay with all sorts of stuff in the crib from day one!

Charlie started using a blanket shortly after he turned 2 and starting climbing out of his crib with his sleep sack.

Olive still sleeps in a sleep sack at 23 months, but I am much more lax with a blanket... but she always kicks it off which is why I prefer the sleep sack. I sometimes give her an Aden and Anais blanket but only recently.

When did your LO start sleeping with a blanket or a quilt (like the kinds that come in the baby bedding sets). I let K nap with an A&A blanket, but not at night. She sleeps with a sleep sack. My friend has never used a sleep sack or swaddle. Just used real blankets (not even the lightweight muslin kinds). Another friend's toddler refuses to sleep with any blanket, so they have to turn up the heat in the winter.

Just wondering about the blanket transition as LOs get older...
