I was just reading about this on Stroller Traffic...

http://strollertraffic.com/traffic-log/article/beyond-the-sleep-sack/

According to this, the AAP says blankets are okay after 1 yo... I say, just make sure it's lightweight and breathable, especially with younger toddlers.

I guess I am in the minority. Sienna has had a small blanket with her in bed since about 3 months. She just always needed to snuggle with something to sleep. :|

Ugh. So I guess we're going to be just sticking with the sleep sack for a while yet. DD has been sick for the last few days and sleeping with us a lot. She is so happy tucked in with blankets in bed with us, and she always looks so cozy and warm.

The oldest one napped with DH when he was 1 or so every afternoon (DH works 2nd shift). He used blankets then because he was in our bed. He asked for a pillow first and then a blanket. I would say he had both by 20 months.

Our littlest co-sleeps and so he has been using blankets his entire life.

not until charlie was over 2 and asked for one! he was in a sleep sack though because it prevented him from climbing out of his crib.

olive is 13 months and i don't think we'll put her in a blanket until she's 2 either. they just kick it off and i'm already obsessed about whether or not they're cold as it is.

i recently got charlie a thick winter blanket, and it's great because it's so heavy, he doesn't kick it off!

Luckily I'm in Florida so we don't really have to worry about cold. Lo only sleeps in a sleep sack and diaper. She's 15 months and a blanket would still worry me, but I do admit that I'm a worrier.

Personally I'm not comfortable with it yet. I've heard stories about little ones wrapping those blankets around their necks and she rolls all over the place in there right now..

For us, it's just more layers, a hat (remember when they were newborns and always had little sleep hats?) or turn the thermostat up in the house.

DD is 7 months old now, and she usually sleeps fairly well now, except for when she's sick. I have been noticing lately though that she is waking up in the night sometimes, and I worry that it's because it's really cold in her room. She's already sleeping in a long-sleeved onesie, footed PJs, and a sleepsack, but she always sleeps much better in our room when she's snuggled in under some blankets. I know we're past the worst of the SIDS risk now, so I was wondering when others have decided to introduce blankets into their babies' cribs. Is it safe enough to do now, or should I keep on waiting?
