I let him spend a few minutes "brushing" his own teeth (really just chewing on the brush and sometimes moving it around) before I go in and brush them. After he got a bunch of teeth, we brush them with infant toothpaste and his own toothbrush. We've gotten a few different flavours since, right now it's a tutti-frutti type deal.
