We started around week 1. We used Bum Genius newborn AIOs prefolds/Thirsties covers/snappi fasteners.

We started her on her 4th day of life. For now we are using rented newborn cloth diapers. The rental is from Diaper Daisy, I can't remember the brand of the diapers, but they're designed to fit under the umbilical stump for newborns.

I have a full drawer of BumGenius and Fuzzibunz pocket diapers waiting for DD as soon as she fits into them. A that point we can send back the rented newborn diapers. I have a feeling that won't be for another 6 weeks or so, but we'll see...

DD is currently about 6.5 lbs, and she was just under 6 lbs when we started her in her newborn cloth diapers.

@mrstilly: hahaha, I have a crazy variety...lemme see if I can remember them all:

Covers - Econobum OS, Bummis (size small {I think}), Palm Tree OS
Then I have 2 covers that I sewed myself; one is "newborn" size (the pattern said up to 10 pounds) one is size small

Hybrid diapers - Best Bottoms OS, Flip OS, Grovia OS
And I also have flat diapers to use with the hybrid covers sometimes, they're swaddlebees

I also have 2 itti bitti diapers which are considered snap-in-ones but I consider them closer to pockets than hybrids. 1 is a Tutto (which is a OS) one is a d'lish (which is a sized diaper - it is size small which is for 8-16 pounds)

Pockets - Rumparooz, Bumgenius 4.0, fuzzibunz elite, happy heiny, kawaii

AIO - Ones & Twos, Tots Bots

I didn't start using them full time until DD was around 2 months! For the next baby we will use them as soon as the tar poo goes away. You could always get a few newborn diapers in cloth & ease into it?

We did not do newborn diapers since I expected a big baby. He popped out at 10lbs 9oz. We were able to use one size dipes from the beginning. We waited until his cord fell off which was 3 weeks.

We started with sunbaby pocket dipes which were similar to bg 4.0s, but cut a bit smaller. He also fit into lawsuit and bg 4.0s. He did not fit into Flips or smartipants until about 15 pounds.

What does your cd stash consist of?

My son was just over 7 lbs when he started. He was a week old, his cord fell off right at one week.
We started with one size fuzzibunz. They were big but they worked. We also used grovia hybrid

my newborn gDiapers have a snap down in front to lower the diaper for the cord stump... Do you have any of those?
Or... just get some old fashioned diaper covers from a thrift store, and use the big square cloth diapers that you have to fold up.
Or buy one pack of disposables :(

10 days, probably just under 9lbs, bumgenius 4.0 OS. I think the thigh chunk factor is more key than weight though!

@Mrsbells: I was assuming DS would be MUCH bigger at birth since I was almost 11 pounds, but he popped out at only 7 pounds 6 ounces! He's still so little...I'm excited to see how much he weighs tomorrow at his appointment.

We did a newborn diaper rental so we could use cloth as soon as we got home from the hospital. We used kissaluvs size 0 fitteds with thirsties XS covers. My son didn't start fitting our one size cloth (FB or BG) until he was a good 10-12 lbs.

I was hoping to start using our cloth diapers before having to buy our own disposables but we're almost out of the stash of disposables we got from the hospital (DS is 11 days old - he was 7 pounds at his 2 day check up, I'll find out how much he weighs now tomorrow at his 2 week check) and I tried putting a CD on him and it was HUGE! Not to mention his umbilical cord still hasn't fallen off and I know you aren't supposed to cover it with a diaper.

So, when did you start using your cloth diapers (age/weight)? What kind (type AND brand...I have a huge variety, lol) did you use most comfortably at first?

I really don't wanna go buy a pack of disposables...8-(
