Day 2 with number 1 because I felt so great and the weather was so nice. #2 was born in respiratory season so we were a little more careful, but we took her to a protest at the Capitol at 2 weeks of age :)

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I think people in FL are just nuts. I'd leave her in her carseat with an a&a covering her when we had to go to the outpatient center for her jaundice bloodwork (we went a lot, sometimes 3x a week until she was 4wks!), and people would still crowd me/us and come and ask questions about her, sit next to me, etc. and every time I lifted the blanket to check on her a random crazy person would say "Ooh, can I see?" And proceed to hover. Everything about my expresiion and body language said Back The F Up but it didn't stop them from trying!

I guess that's why I got freaked out about bringing her out, because of all the creepers at the outpatient lab/hospital! It didn't help that it really freaked me out that all of those people were there bc they obviously had something medically wrong with them! I just wanted to get her home & stay there, and I guess that's what we've done- lol

@shopaholic: We have a baby bjorn air for dh...I havent even looked at it...I have to force myself to use that damn sling before I go an easier route like the Bjorn...I HAD to have it in my custom colors and it was close to $150 so I have to figure it out!

Today we are probably going to stick to carseat in shopping cart. I don't want to traumatize myself too much in one day...Dh hasnt put the adapters on the UBV for the carseat, and I'll have to work my way up to Carseat/Bassinet transfers, lol

I started taking her out alone when she was 5 days old. At church she would stay in her carseat with a blanket covering her.
I wore her in the moby when I grocery shopped (starting at 3 weeks).
People seem to really respect the space of a tiny newborn. Especially if youre wearing her or if there is a blanket over her carseat.

Did you get a baby carrier (besides the sling) that you could try out yet? Another thing is if you bring in the car seat, just keep it covered with a muslin blanket. I ALWAYS see that and end up never even getting to see any babies! My GF would always keep her baby covered in the car seat, even when we'd go out to lunch and shop for a couple of hours, she'd only peek in on him once in awhile and no one ever came near him.

I started going out with LO at 7 weeks. We went to a moms group at the hospital and joined Gymboree.

For grocery shopping I would use my stroller and collect groceries in a basket. It got heavy real quick so I couldn't get too much.

When weve gone out as a family, I put an a+a blanket over the carseat to prevent anyone from looking/touching.

I took mine out immediately, I am not a stay at home person. I wore her in a moby at that age and never noticed people getting too close. I think baby wearing puts them so firmly in your personal space that people are less likely to intrude.

Lo is 7 weeks and we went grocery shoppinh for the first time yesterday. It's cold out and flu season so I've been extra conservative about taking him out besides friends/family houses.

I only have a moby rt now so I used the carseat in the big part of the cart and managed to get a ton of groceries. The bagger helped by putting everything in a second cart and just pushed and pulled two carts to the car.

A slept the whole time and it made me feel great. Functioning normally w baby. I also didnt have issues w ppl as i kept him covered the whole time. I think today we might so shopping for mil's bday gift. Will probably get the moby ready and put him inside the car before heading in...

Need to gey an ergo asap

We went out by ourselves about 2 or 3 weeks after she was born. We started with quick errands...that still seemed to take forever! I used our snap and go stroller at the grocery store, Target, etc. I couldn't do big shopping trips, but the basket underneath the stroller held a fair amount. On the few occasions where someone got to close, I would just put the shade (or whatever that piece on the car seat is called) over her and they usually got the hint!

we went out when i could drive!

in the cart, she goes in the big part - too afraid of it tipping from being top heavy personally. i brought reusable shopping bags to fill as i went, & stored them underneath & in the seat part (i use our grocerys self-scanner)

i found that the only people that got close were when i ran into someone i knew! i was surprised by that

I started taking her places about 2 weeks after she was out of NICU. I would leave her in cart in car seat with blanket over her face to prevent people from looking. We would walk around stores, I got stir crazy very easily so I need to get out of the house. For the most part people were pretty good about staying back and just asking how old she was.

@PrincessBaby: I would actually be pretty shocked if someone at BRU or BBB could demonstrate proper baby wearing techniques. Especially a ring sling. I would try to find a smaller, boutique type store that sells a wide variety of carriers. The brand of ring sling won't matter. They all work the same.

@PrincessBaby: The carseat is scary at first, but the more you do it the more comfortable you get. I remember being scared to death the first time I had to put LO in a carseat. Before LO could leave the NICU we had to pass the carseat challenge, which meant you had to strap your LO in a carseat (correctly) and they had to maintain their breathing while in it for 1 hour. DH and I were so scared we practiced at home using a mickey doll that was similar size to LO. He was a tiny little guy so it was extremely intimidating.

@PrincessBaby: ha that sounds amazzzzing! My arms are sore today after our first trip out together to the pediatrician so I'm guessing I'd probably still stay in if it were nice, I need to start lifting weights! I've been trying to get out for short stroller walks which are easier.

We probably started going out regularly at 3-4 weeks. At 6-7 weeks I made it a point to get out everyday for my sanity!

When my LO was still in his infant seat I would grocery shop with him in his stroller and the carseat attachment. I was never comfortable with putting the carseat in the shopping cart. I've always preferred to make several trips to the grocery store each week so not being able to do a big shop didn't bother me!

We took LO out pretty much right after he got out of the NICU at 10 days. It was June so the weather was warm and it was nice getting outside. I think if I had a baby during cold and flu season, I would not have been as quick to get him outside. I think as long as you don't go to crowded areas like malls, etc you will be fine. I would definitely take LO out for lunches, etc.
