So, when the time came that I was allowed to wear makeup in general when I went to highschool, I ONLY knew how to do stage makeup. I'll probably slowly let her start using a little bit around the same age. Maybe just lip gloss and mascara early on, and concealer if she feels self conscious about acne. Looking back I have no idea why a 12 year old needs powder but I'm glad my parents let me do whatever I wanted in terms of my looks. </p> <p>I would let my daughter wear makeup whenever she becomes interested in it but I may try to steer her in the right direction of makeup appropriate for her age. I went to a pretty crunchy women's college so I didn't wear much there. Since I've been a working adult, I've gone through phases of wearing makeup but always fall off the wagon, haha. I prefer the extra five minutes of sleep.</p> <p>DH and I already disagree about when DD can start. I started to wear makeup for special occasions at 15/16 just lipstick really. I barely wear it now. I also think that back in the late 80s/early 90s when I was teen, there were crappy color options for Black women, so I just didn't bother. None of my friends were into makeup, so I don't think I even thought about it much. Then around 7th grade I was allowed mascara &amp; eyeshadow. My mom always encouraged me to go natural though &amp; I always had to buy my own make up. I think I started regularly wearing a "full face" around my sophomore year in high school. I really don't know what we will decide for LO. I want her to really appreciate herself for who she is without that stuff because it took me a long time to feel confident. I was always into makeup and watching my mom so I remember feeling awesome and grown up! If LO is interested I think that age is appropriate. </p>
