We tried WCM in a straw cup around 11-11.5 months. DS drank it fine but it gave him the runs so we gave him toddler formula for a month and then tried milk again. He had no issues this time - I think we mixed formula with milk for a few days before we ran out but decreased formula each day bc he was tolerating the milk just fine.

I started introducing milk in sippy cup at 11 months. At first she only wanted the milk warmed up but by 12 months she was totally fine in sippy, straw, any cup and any temp! Tho she does have one favorite cup that she 100% will always drink out of.

With DD1 I gave her straight WCM around her first birthday. She took to it fairly quickly.

With DD2 my supply dried up and she refused formula. She snatched one of DD1's milk cups and polished it off quickly. So she started getting some around nine months. In Canada some docs are OK with starting WCM at that age. It still felt young to me, but it was better than nothing.

@sorrycharlie: I did it straight up. I tried mixing with breastmilk but he didn't seem to like that as much and I figured it's just one more thing to have to wean him off.

I started mixing with breastmilk at 11 months and by 12 months, he was drinking all WCM (in bottles/cups- he was still nursing a bit too).

I started at 11 months in a straw cup....he took to it a week or two before he turned one. It wasn't a necessity, but I did want to day wean and I think this helped that process. At 12 months we are down to morning and night (and overnight) nursing, which is what I wanted.

We supplemented, so when we ran out of formula around 12 months we just substituted with wcm, both in a bottle and in a cup. Took the bottles away around 17 months, which was a pita for about 3 days, and now she drinks milk in a cup and still nurses a few times a day at 20 months.

I started mixing WCM with breast milk around 11 months then fully gave him WCM at 12 months.

I second giving the milk in a sippy or straw cup if a bottle is not receptive.

I started giving DS a bit in the afternoon around 10 months at the recommendation of our ped.

He still nursed tonnes and didn't wean until 20 months but during the day at daycare once he was 1 he just drank WCM.

I offered J a sippy of about an ounce of milk yesterday at dinner. She drank it all. Not sure if the milk was responsible for her tummy ache an hour or so later though. So my rec would be to offer in the morning and not at night. (Hindsight is 20/20 - right?).

I would offer it in a straw cup at a year. My first and second didn't love WCM and they mostly nursed and drank water. My third loved it but it didn't affect her nursing sessions.

@sorrycharlie: I'm always in the mindset of try the easy option first. So straight WCM. After a while if she doesn't take it at least you haven't wasted liquid gold and then you can try to mix

I started offering a little bit in a cup (started wth dippy but quickly switched to straw cup) around a year, with meals. She wasn't a huge fan but would take some sips here and there. She was still nursing plenty so I didn't care about the amount, just getting her used to it.

Gradually as she started dropping nursing sessions she started drinking more and more milk. She weaned 9 months ago but we still have days where she has almost no milk and days where she drinks probably 16 oz. she also has always eaten a lot of yogurt and cheese so it's never been a concern.

She also stopped really taking bottles before a year but I found she would drink pumped milk from her straw cup if I was away.

Eta: I did straight whole milk, just a couple ounces since most of it got thrown out at first.

my baby is 11 months old today...sob. I'm not planning on weaning any time soon (breastfeeding), but, should I start introducing milk? She is finicky with a bottle (she took one until she was 6 months old but just plays with it now), and can drink water from a straw cup. My oldest never drank milk - she refused a bottle but wouldn't drink cow's milk anyway - so I'm not really sure how to go about trying!
