@blackbird: Oh my goodness!!! You need to just avoid those too I think, lol! Hopefully everyone else you deal with will be honest with you about any illnesses!

Ok, i was thinking that now that she's had her shots she's good. I'll be pissed if she's sick in a week, though, ha.

But yeah, that person is less than straight up with people sometimes. And her husband was drunk and kept trying to hold the baby. Um, no.

We stopped really enforcing it probably 3 weeks or so.
I remember asking my sister to use the sanitizer when she was less than a week old and she made fun of me the whole visit.

Maybe after his first set of shots? So two months. But I was really only concerned for the first month or so.

@blackbird: Ugh, that totally sucks that she did that! I'm sure that your LO will be fine, whether you have people wash their hands or not, especially now that she's had some vaccinations, but it sucks that you can't just trust people to tell you if they are sick or not!

I wash my hands anytime I visit someone with a baby around a year old or less, without being asked. But then I also wash my hands as soon as I get home or anywhere else bc I take public transportation.

If someone had driven to see you I guess around 3 months after shots is ok, but everyone should wash their hands if they took public transportation or there is any chance at all that they are sick.

@blackbird: Is it possible that she JUST found out about the tonsillitis the next day? It's definitely sketchy if she felt sick and didn't say anything AND didn't want to wash her hands! I'd maybe never let her touch your LO again in that case!!!

I broke that bubble yesterday for the first time. When she was in NICU for minor issues for a week, we had to scrub to the elbows and hand sanitizer. SO when people visited her at home that next week, I had them use hand sanitizer also. Yesterday I took her to meet some of her family on the farm though, and did not make them do it. Even her grandpa and uncle who came in out of the field. (They weren't DIRTY though, and anyway, field dirt, not animal dirt.) I didn't realize till later that like 8 people touched her without washing but, I think she'll live. ;) I did ask people that they not be around her while sick. As a result my best friend hasn't met her yet as she and her daughter had a cold, but I appreciate them being respectful for that!! Oh and she's 2 weeks old.

Well, we asked family to wash up a month ago, and DH's aunt balked at it. BUT then we found out the NEXT DAY that she had AWFUL tonsillitis! I was so pissed.

So now I feel like...if someone was sick, would they tell us or not?! So i'm a bit paranoid after that.

Probably a month. I would say too that is when people would stop asking where the hand sanitizer was or say let me wash my hands first.

We still generally ask people to wash their hands before holding LO, or at least use purell, and he's almost 8 months...but most people here take public transportation to get to us, which is pretty grimy.

I never asked people to wash up. If they were obviously sick they weren't welcome over until well. Generally I'm pro germ.

Day 1? haha. I never asked people to wash their hands or use sanitizer before touching Xander.

That being said, if someone was sick, I didn't let them hold him until I felt confident they were no longer contagious. My poor mom had to wait a week after he was born before she could hold him!

So now that E is 9 weeks and had her vaccines, she won't be automatically admitted to the hospital and get a spinal tap and other scary stuff if she gets sick. Obviously I don't want her to get sick but I feel like I'm past the point of asking people to wash up or sanitize before holding her. Unless they are sick or have been around sickies, in which case they shouldn't touch her at all. Plus she starts at her small, in-home daycare in 3.5 weeks!

When did you stop busting out the sanitizer for your newborn/infant?
