I remember my cousin (my age) had lined all the cousins up and asked who believed in Santa or not and I didn't want to admit that I still did so probably started questioning then. And we eventually found our 'santa' presents hidden at home, I was never upset about it.<br /> I remember at one point almost-not-believing and then my godmother told me she saw santa's sleigh and reindeer fly by and I 'knew' she wouldn't lie to me so I totally believed. ;)</p> <p>My 4th grade teacher told the whole class Santa wasn't real. Maybe 10? I do distinctly remember though that it just hit me one day that it probably wasn't real. I asked my parents and they confirmed that yes, Santa wasn't real. I'm sure I believed at a young age but that's further back than I can remember. My parents didn't emphasize Santa much though, and none of the gifts were from Santa, he was just the delivery person. </p> <p>I do remember feeling very smug that I had figured out that the tooth fairy was my mom. My parents were super, super religious (Christian) so Christmas growing up was a huge celebration but it was more centered around Jesus's birth and all of that. We read stories about St. Nick and has Santa paraphernalia around the house and took pics on Santa's lap, but we were never told he was real. He was just a cool Christmas character, like Rudolph and Frosty.</p> <p>Once we got older, my mom would write "from Santa" on the gifts to be cheeky.</p> <p>We never did Christmas like they do on TV. We were not allowed to wake up and run into the living room and start ripping open presents, haha. There was never any moment where I was like "my whole life is a lie!". I know I believed when I was around 5-6 but I don't remember finding out he wasn't real. We also only ever got like one present from Santa and the rest were from my parents and relatives. So eventually Christmas became more about the magic of gifts and cookies and stuff than about Santa. </p> <p>It also may have been that I grew up overseas and understood that Santa was kind of an American idea (at least as Americans do Santa). My mom told me the truth because she didn't want to lie to me anymore. She was older and had a hard time learning the truth about Santa as a kid. So we always pretended but we didn't actually believe. My daughter is 3 and talks about Santa. I go along with it but I won't tell her that he's coming to her house or giving her presents. Then when I was 5 and living in America, I woke up in the middle of the night to see my mom wrapping a gift. She told me it was from Santa in the morning, but I knew it was from her. So I never believed in Santa, the tooth fairy, Easter bunny, etc.</p> <p>Charlie will be 7 next month and definitely still believes in Santa! </p>
