DS was taking seven 4oz feedings when we started the clusterfeeding at 3 months, he had a growth spurt the next week and went to six 5oz feedings. Just after Xmas just shy of 4 months he started taking the 6oz bottle in the morning and the 4oz dreamfeed at night. At 4 months he switched to five 6oz feedings 3.5 hours apart and then this last week we are on 6oz every 3 hours plus one 2 tablespoon meal of solids at lunch. He gets a 7oz bottle at bedtime and he finishes it half the time but he's definitely full when he's done. I think it's normal for them to fuss because as the bottles get bigger the feeding goes longer. We moved up a nipple size and that helped but I think DS just gets bored and wants to play so we have to cajole him to take the rest of his bottle.

@gingerbebe: how many ounces were you feeding your LO at 4 months? I'm trying to feed 5 oz. per feeding/every 3 hours, but she is often fussy after about 2-3 oz.

When DS began to have 2 MOTN feedings we started clusterfeeding at 7, 9, and 11 with a 730pm bedtime. If not he would wake up at 1 and 4am but with the stacked feedings he would just wake once around 3-4. We had to time it just right because of he woke at 5am or later he would not go back down.

Once he went through his next growth spurt he was able to take an extra ounce at his feedings so we dropped the 9pm feeding and moved the 11pm feeding up to 1030pm and he woke at 330-4am less often until we had him going from 11-730am.

I wanted to wean him off the dreamfeed by 4-5 months so I started giving him one ounce less at his dreamfeed but give him an extra ounce in his morning bottle. Then we started moving the dreamfeed earlier and earlier by 30 minute increments and we were finding he would sleep fine if fed as early as 9pm (asleep by 930pm).

He had another growth spurt and was able to take another ounce at a feeding so we just dropped the dreamfeed but made his last feeding a little later - at 830pm. So he would go to bed and we would wake him an hour or 90 minutes later to get his last meal.

In the past week we've started feeding him the same amount in shorter spans - every 3 hours instead of every 3.5 - and started him on 1 small meal of solids and added an extra ounce at bedtime and he's been going from 730pm to about 7-ish just fine. He's been waking at night or earlier a little bit because the new food schedule is making him poop at different times (he previously only pooped during the day) and dirty diapers bother him but I imagine he will figure it out soon.

DS is 4.5 months.

I never did it with either of my kids. Sorry - no help! They just gradually dropped night feeds on their own. At that age, DS1 began STTN. DS2 had mostly one sometimes two Feeds at that age.

My 4 month old has been having 2-3 MOTN awakenings, and I am exhausted. She used to have 1 awakening, but I think the multiple awakenings corresponds to her earlier bedtime. I gave her a dream feed last night because she didnt eat enough during the day, and she woke 1x in the MOTN, but woke up an hour earlier for the day. I'm thinking of giving her a dream feed every night, so I can get a little rest, but I'm afraid it'll create a habit for her. When did you stop dream feeds, and how was it when you stopped?
