Thanks everyone, this is really interesting! I haven't had a breastfeeding goal ever really-- just to bf as long as it works-- and so on one hand, I don't want to change things since they're going well, but on the other... It'd be so much easier to drop at least 1 session per day! It's good to see the other moms have been able to keep nursing without pumping too

@LovelyPlum: ha! thank you - i liked knowing that he was getting what he needed so i just stuck with it. he does drink coconut milk so that was helpful. at 2.6 he can do cheese and 'baked' dairy (bread, baked goods) but still can't do yogurt, butter, milk. we'll get there.

@LovelyPlum: Our LO had MSPI too so we went right to hemp milk. We started around 11.5 months (just mixed some with BM and increased it until she was taking all hemp milk). We occasionally gave her coconut milk too. We have gradually added dairy into her diet starting around 14 months (started with cheese, then yogurt) and she seems ok with dairy now. Good luck, I hope your LO outgrows it soon!

@littlebittyhouse: oh whoa, go you! We're MSPI, too, and that makes me nervous to stop pumping. I don't know how the transition is going to go, so I'm thinking I should just keep pumping until we know.

@catlady: question for you: did you try to reintroduce dairy, or did you just go straight to hemp milk? (Sorry, it's a bit OT, so feel free to wall me)

Pumped until he was 2! He had a dairy/soy allergy and we were still nursing at home so I figured why not. I was really happy to pack that thing up. We continued to nurse at nap and night time until he was 2.5

I started to wean from the pump during the 10th month as I had a big enough freezer stash to get me to a year. I nursed morning and night until just before he turned 1. He self weaned.

I stopped the week after she turned one. I had dialed back from 3x pumps per day to 1 pump per day gradually over the previous month. At the same time, we transitioned her from on demand nursing to bottles on weekends (mix of BM and hemp milk, then eventually just hemp milk), other than once in the morning and once at night. It was pretty easy to just switch to nursing AM/PM only after I stopped pumping. We are still nursing 2x per day at almost 16 months. She occasionally asks to nurse during the day on weekends and I let her. Not sure how much she gets though.

I stopped pumping right when he turned one. I had slowly decreased my sessions in the weeks before so I could be done by then. I continued to nurse 2-3 times per day for a couple more months, then weaned.

I stopped at 12 months and 2 days. My supply started dropping at 8 months though, and I was only uncomfortable for a few days after I stopped. We are still nursing once a day at almost 16 months.

Good question! I'd love to break up with my pump, but I'm not sure how it's going to go. I've been stretching out my pumping times, but I get to 6 hours and feel like I'm going to EXPLODE. So I think I'm going to have the opposite issue...I have to pump if I don't want to leak until kingdom come.

Interested to see what others have to say!

Somehow, LO will be 10 months already next week

Which gets me thinking about the eventual weaning process...

I'd love to break up with my pump, but I love my nursing relationship with LO. She has been combo-fed since she was 2 months because of supply issues. I actually don't think my supply is a huge issue now--on days that she's home with me, LO rarely takes a bottle unless we go out and she gets hungry (she doesn't like nursing in public/gets distracted). Otherwise she nurses on demand and that plus solids seems to satisfy her, and she's growing great. On daycare days (3 days/week, ~8am-3pm) I pump twice. I'd love to drop the work-time pumps since it really kills my productivity, but I am afraid to kill my supply, though I have a large freezer stash and don't mind using formula to supplement.

Anywho...When did you stop pumping, and were you able to keep nursing after stopping? If you did continue nursing, were you nursing on demand, or just night/morning only? Did you stop pumping because LO stopped demanding, or did you cut pump sessions before demand slowed?
