she self-weaned around 3.5 months old. I was so bummed, because that happened to be the same time she started sleeping in 2-3 hour blocks. and still is. not sure if it is because of losing the swaddle, crappy sleeper, or because she happened to have a cold and was waking often stuffed up - no idea!

it was kind of a blessing in disguise, in a way, because she was outgrowing the size small sleep sack (swaddle) so we would have had to lose it soon anyway.

we did 1 arm out for awhile around 7/8 weeks or so, then around 10 weeks we did both out and she was totally fine. i was going to swaddle for awhile (3-4 months) but my dh and mom made me feel badly, like i was restricting her movement and growth or something! so i just stopped swaddling and she did totally fine.

Still swaddling at 4.5 months... terrified to stop. I guess I'm going to start doing one arm out and see how it goes. I tried the cold turkey thing and she screamed and screamed!

we swaddled for a long time... just for naps, though. Until he was about 7.5 months old? He was late in learning to roll and flip, so we wer able to keep him swaddled till then. As soon as he started flipping more and getting stuck, we had to stop swaddling him. There were a few tearful days while he got used to it! He seemd to calm down when i began putting him in his nighttime sleep sack for naps. I think he got comfort from it and it felt familiar.

eta: we just used and A+A blanket for swaddling the whole time. I guess he never really tried to get out of the swaddle much. Another thing you can try is just swaddling under his armpits leaving his arms out. might be a transition thing?

At about 5 months. He was way too big for the ones we had and I wasn't going to buy a bigger size. We tried one arm out but he hated that so we ended up just going cold turkey. It only took him a night or 2 to adjust to it, for awhile we put him down in the swaddle still with the arms undone and it just velcro'd around his waste and then a sleep sack. Now he just sleeps in pj's. It was getting too hot for all the layers.

3 months. I started putting her in the sleep sack and just swaddling her arms. Then I moved to not swaddling her arms at all. she was a little restless the first couple of nights and then was fine.

We never swaddled her for naps though.

We stopped the day after he turned 4 months old, which was the first night he rolled from back to tummy in his swaddle, just as DH was getting him for his morning feed. After seeking advice here, we decided to wean cold turkey, and after one rough night and one medium night, he started to STTN again. He loves sleeping in his sleep sack now - he rolls on to his side to sleep and does a great job self-soothing with his thumb. We definitely wouldn't have stopped swaddling if he hadn't rolled.

we stopped really early - like 2 weeks old?

but we also used the Rock N Play for sleep - and I think the cocoon-ness of it sorta mimicked a swaddle.

Stopped cold turkey at 6m because DS kept rolling over and getting stuck. He wasn't STTN yet and that hasn't really changed except for after I put him back in bed following a wake-up he wants to play with his pacifier instead of going to sleep.

Around 5 months...I thought it was going to be hell because every time he broke out, he woke up. But he was rolling over so we got rid of it. After a night or two, he discovered he loved sleeping on his belly and would roll to his belly as soon as we put him down and became such a good sleeper!

We swaddle-weaned just after 4 months but we used the Magic SleepSuit to help transition. Even though my LO looked like the Michelin Man, he slept sooo well with it and there were no changes in his sleep. We transitioned into a sleepsack 5-6 weeks later without issue.

I don't think there's anything wrong with still swaddling as long as there are no safety issues. I think 6 months would have been my cutoff though.

I think we stopped around 4-5 months, we stop swaddling basically around the time he could break himself free like superman taking off his suit. :)

Everyone is different. I have never read it was harmful to swaddle after a certain age anywhere so I think you are fine as long as it works for you and you are both comfortable.

4 months. We kept finding her flopped over onto her belly and stuck that way, so we had no choice to wean since that is a suffocation hazard.

It was a ROUGH few nights, and then she sailed passed it with flying colors! (Although we just weaned last week, and she has STTN two nights in a row, 12+ hours. So I might be excited early. But that's where we are at)

She's still in the swaddle because it is convenient for keeping her warm at night, but her arms are free. We put a long sleeve onesie on her to keep her arms from getting chilly.

DS is 5.5 months now and we can't get away from the swaddle. We were just doing one arm for the longest time and he would sleep ok. We tried a couple nights not swaddle at all and he woke up constantly. Last night we swaddled both arms in and he slept SO much better! I feel like we should be past the swaddle now, but it's still working and he isn't rolling back to belly yet, so I don't see any problem in still swaddling him. Unless there is?

He's growing out of his swaddleme. Is it a bit ridiculous I just ordered my almost 6 month old a new swaddle?! lol Even if we only use it another week or two, that's a week or two of better sleep!

When did you stop swaddling your LO? How did you wean them from the swaddle?
