We swaddled our LO for exactly 3 days, lol. We tried different types of swaddle blankets and different swaddling techniques but she kept struggling and breaking free. I think she just preferred her arms free. To this day, she sleeps with her hands/arms near her face.

We stopped swaddling when we sleep-trained at 4.5 months, and we used the Magic Sleepsuit (http://www.magicsleepsuit.com/) as a transition piece.

We LOVE the Magic Sleepsuit and used it until Claire was about 7 months old. I recommend it to all my mom friends!

I can't tell if mine likes or hates the swaddle. Sometimes he'll fall asleep fine but like this morning woke up at 5am screaming and the only thing that calmed him down was removing the swaddle. Personally I hate the contraptions. As soon as he rolls over (once) I'm using it as an excuse to ditch it. I love the idea of a lovey though.

My daugther really didn't like to be swaddled after her first couple of weeks. We noticed that she slept more soundlly when she wasn't bundled. It was strange to us but hey, ya do what the baby wants if it means more rest for everyone!

haha my daughter is almost two and sometimes when she is having problems sleeping we still "swaddle her" in a way. We leave her arms free but take a small blanket a loosely do the swaddle.
But we stopped really swaddling her (arms in , nightly) once she started turning over on her belly.

My LO is 5-1/2 months and we still swaddle to get her to fall asleep. But then unswaddle her as she falls asleep and after she's asleep.

DJ is 3 months so she will need to stop the swaddle soon but I feel like she needs a few more weeks to have better cOntrol of her arms. They still just flail all over and wake her up

LaneyBugsMommy - that is awesome!! I think we are going to be transitioning Lyle out of the swaddle soon and that is a great idea.

This isn't for everyone but I wanted to offer a suggestion for those that are having a problem with little ones bothering themselves with their hands in their sleep. When we broke the swaddle we introduced a lovey and when we lay Libby-Jane down at night we tuck the lovey under her arm so she's holding it. It gives her something to keep her hands busy with and we haven't had a problem with it ending up by her face or anything.

We sleep trained RJ around 4 months, I think, right around the time he started sleeping through the night. Started with night sleep and then once he mastered that, nap trained him, which was tougher and took longer.

Hi Tina :)

Yeah Eli bothers himself with his hands all the time! He is swaddled with the miracle blanket at night as well. During the day, I just swaddle him with aden + anais... He would sometimes get out of it. We are thinking of sleep training at 12 weeks... When did you sleep train RJ?

We stopped swaddling when he started rolling over, around 3-4 months, especially because he prefers to sleep on his tummy. We would swaddle him super tightly with the miracle blanket so he couldn't get out, so when we stopped swaddling we'd have to stand there and hold his arms down while he was falling asleep, otherwise he'd wake himself up with his hands or pull his pacifier out of his mouth. That sucked. But once he learned not to bother himself with his hands, we went ahead and sleep trained then.

HI Reggie!!! ;)

Bee- do you think it's a good idea to stop swaddling when sleep training? my fear is that if we sleep train with the swaddle.. what happens when we stop swaddling? will the sleep training go down the drain?

we stopped at 4.5 months when we sleep trained. it was a matter necessity because he started sleeping on his stomach and would break free of the swaddle anyway.

I stopped at 4.5 months because my daughter was rolling all over the place in her sleep. I chose not to wean her gradually and just waited until a Friday night that I didn't care if I slept well and went cold turkey. She slept 7 hours straight that night (previously up after 4). The next two nights had her up about 3 times a night but after that she was fine.
