I actually just stopped tracking, even with A getting her ng tube out last week, because it was just causing too much stress for me. I'm the kind of person who used to track each and ever gram I ate, so I know I have a tendency to get obsessive..

Right now I'm just trying to focus on getting her to enjoy eating and begin solids, but as far as counting ounces, I am trying to be able to just know whether or not she's in the range she should be.

If it is causing you more stress I would stop for sure.

We quit early on, because it was stressing me out. I still kept a running tally of MOTN wake ups until about 5 months, when it was starting to depress me. I vowed at that point to stop looking at the clock and just go with it. I have no spare brain space for that kind of worry!

I'm still tracking at 8 months. It's really stressful and I recognize that, but even if I didn't write it down, I'd still stress that he left X amount in his bottle, etc etc. I hate myself for it! When I was nursing, I wasn't as stressed out because I had no idea how many ounces he'd take per session, but now that he's formula fed, it's become an issue. I'm the same way about LO's sleep.

I never tracked. The nurse in the hospital yelled at me for not doing it, so I definitely didn't do it on my own at home! I figured as long as she was gaining well, had dirty diapers and happy she knew how much and when she wanted to eat.

I never really tracked, just knew she got X bottles at about X ounces, and at one appt, found out I was under feeding her by about a half bottle. At 9 months or so, we were dropping bottles and having more puréed food, and I remember it all varying widely. They'll let you know if they want more! It sounds stressful so I would stop!

I used it until over a year, but it starts to get really confusing when solids take off anyway. And my LO was usually between 18-20 oz a day so I really needed to know. I'd say stop if it's stressing you out!

I only track when we're having issues or I feel like he's suddenly taking more or less. Most of the time it's an approximate running total in my head and usually it helps me not to stress. My LO is just a week or two older than your LOs.

Still tracking all feedings and naps at 4.5 months (in Baby Connect). We partially use it to communicate with our nanny about feedings and naps/wake times. My LO has reflux and has had issues with refusing feeds, bottles, and generally being a snacker, so I like to track all feedings. We tracked nighttime sleep until the 4-month regression came early at 3.5 months, and then it got too depressing, so we stopped! No plans to stop tracking feeds and naps anytime soon.

@twodoghouse: How are your kids with solids? Mine started at five months and was a voracious eater immediately. So, I didn't really have to worry too much about his intake even though I still obsessed a bit. He was EBF but I had supply issues starting around 6mo so I was still nervous about it.

@spaniellove: He's actually off his Prevacid now and he doesn't spit up anymore most days. But there is still the lingering fear! He stopped spitting up around 5 months which coincides with his weight starting to sky rocket (like a pound in 2 weeks!). I think I'm just obsessed with the numbers because I lived in fear of them (mostly him) never making it into the chart. Even though he's thriving now, I still think of him as my 4.5 lb baby.

ETA: he stopped spitting up several months ago but it was just at 8 months that we have up the Prevacid because we were scared what it would do if he stopped. He's been eating great and not having issues since we quit.

@twodoghouse: That feeling of defeat when everything you just fed them comes up! Because then you know you're behind and it's not like you can just start again that moment. We were going through that for months during his projectile vomiting phase. Blake is on meds for his reflux, right? Are you sure they're working effectively?

@autumnlove: I don't think I'll ever give up tracking their sleep! They'll be in college and I'll be calling like "when did you wake up? Did you take a nap today? How much sleep are you getting? Is it too much? Too little?" I stare at the sleep charts in Baby connect and hope they will somehow reveal the secret to getting them to sleep through the night.

@Leah: Yeah I had a scale from my LC for several months but it was depressing. Only an ounce from the right side? That can't be right!! My husband made me return it and stop fracking out.

@spaniellove: Ugh, reflux adds a whole other dimension. Blake still takes max of 4 oz at a time (usually 8-10 bottles per day!!) and I feel like if I give him more he will spit it all up and then those ounces won't count! Some days I think I have PTSD from the early feeding days. You probably know how I feel.

@ElbieKay: Waste of energy is how I'm starting to feel. In general I feel like I stare at my phone too much while they are awake, and part of that is obsessing over their intake. I think ok going to try breaking up with the app and concentrate on their signals and not numbers on a screen!

I tracked nursing sessions, bottle feedings and pumping sessions religiously for six months. After that I only tracked pumping sessions and bottle feedings so that I could manage my milk inventory.

In hindsight, I should not have logged the nursing sessions for so long. Waste of time and energy.

ETA: We tracked diapers for only a few weeks, and for awhile I tracked sleep in an attempt to identify a pattern. I never did. I don't think I would bother with that if I had a second baby.

This is what I told someone else who asked a similar question, but...you know about our struggles! For a while now I've been eyeballing how much is left in each bottle (I try not to force feed because of his aversions). If there were a few bottles with at least an ounce or one with a few, I'd know that he'd probably wake up hungry at night. And if this happened for a few days or it got worse I'd worry because of his ongoing reflux. But...no more Baby Connect. Only using Baby Connect when we're having an acute situation!

I went way overboard with this, renting a scale and weighing LO before and after every nursing session. Major stress. He never has as much as I wish and I have to pump after feedings to keep my supply up. I just ditched the scale a few weeks ago and am so much happier.

My kids (8.5 month old twins) nurse and take formula. They were full term but small and had a very slow start to gaining weight. For the first 6 months they were on high calorie formula and around 6 months they really started to take off in weight. As they took more in bottles my supply got lower and lower. At this point I know they do get milk from me, but I'm not sure how much. I think most of their nursing is for comfort and I rely on formula for their calories.

Anyway, they are doing great with weight gain these days. Yet I am still obsessive about force feeding them as many ounces in a day as possible. I track their bottles religiously in an app and stress endlessly over days that their intake is less. (And by less, I mean 25 oz instead of 30. They're obviously still getting enough to eat. And there's whatever breastmilk they get from me on top of that. And I'm trying to get them some solids most days, but they don't eat much).

Anyway, I'm thinking about giving up on the obsessive tracking because it causes me so much stress. I'm with them all day every day. I know their hunger cues. I know what they take on average. I know they won't starve! Am I the only ounce obsessed mom out there? When did you give up on the tracking and was it a relief or more stressful?
