I retired my diaper bag when DS was around 8 months old? DD is potty trained and I don't need much when we go out.

I never had a real diaper bag. I just used a backpack or tote, and continued using my handbag that I like. I couldn't completely get rid of the "diaper" bag until DS was potty trained.

If baby #2 wasn't coming soon I'd probably ditch the diaper bag completely for just a nice bag that I like. I was ready a few months ago actually but I know I'll need the extra space again with the new baby so I just haven't switched. If I were you I'd totally go with just a nice bag :)

I only use mine when we are going somewhere for a long time, like the zoo. I think I'll actually use it even more for feeding/change of clothes as he gets a bit older, but right now I probably use it once a week. (Not sure if that was an answer!) I also carry a large tote which is what I put things in when not using the bag.

I didn't really need a "diaper bag" after 10 months. I just used a tote bag. It's a lot easier once they start consistently eating adult foods and drinking out of sippy/straw cups. I just put a few diapers, wipes, change of clothes, snacks, and few other little knick-knacks in a tote bag and we're good to go.

@shopaholic: no bottles but we use a wet bag for the diapers so I'm not worried about them leaking on the bag.

Hmm... if you weren't CD'ing, I'd say you could probably use a big purse/tote. But IDK with the CD's how bulky and heavy they might be? And what if they leaked in the bag? Do you take bottles too? I just remember someone saying once how a bottle of milk leaked in their purse and couldn't wash it out... Maybe a cheap purse you wouldn't care if it got thrashed?

Was looking at new diaper bags because my bag is pretty summery, but then I wondered if I should just get a new bag that I like regardless of being a "diaper" bag since R is almost 9 months. Will I regret having a baby specific bag soon or is it worth it to get another diaper bag.

If it matters, we CD so I can't do one of those diaper clutch things.
