We had her trying different sippy cups from 6 months on but she didn't take to it for a while. Around 11.5 months, we gradually made her take one of her bottles every day out of a sippy cup while introducing whole milk. She was done at about 12.5 months with the bottles.

@shopaholic: like you, my LO did not take bottles...she would stick her tongue out and push the bottles out of her mouth...I stopped trying around 3 months bc breastfeeding was easy (no parts to wash!). I introduced a sippy cup at 6 months with water. At 8 months she went to a straw cup and started drinking more and more water with her meals. We basically never did bottles and went straight to sippy/straw cups. At 12 months we introduced whole milk slowly. Bc she never had bottles we never had to go through bottle weaning. LO self weaned from breastfeeding around 14 months.

Thanks for all the input! I guess I'll keep them around for another 6 months just in case! And I supposed I should keep SOME in case we have a #2 that will take a bottle?

We stopped around 12 months. We introduced a sippy maybe around 8 months for water or juice. We stopped the daytime bottles cold turkey and just gave her milk from a sippy cup.

We introduced the sippy around the 6 month mark, but LO wanted nothing to do with it until closer to 9 months. We bottle weaned at 12 months, and luckily LO didn't seem to miss his bottles one bit.

@shopaholic: we introduced a soppy cup around 8 months, I think? Our pedi told us to ditch the bottle at 12 months, but Chloe would not have it. It took me awhile to wean her from her morning bottle, and eventually her nap time bottle, but this past June she was still holding strong to the dark bottle!

We did switch from formula to whole milk at 12 months, and ONLY let her have water in the bottle. She hardly drank from it; it was more of a security thing. She'd hug and snuggle it, and fall asleep with it. Crazy!

I hope your transition is easier and smoother. It took us a good week to sleep train her without her bottle/lovey, and then I threw them all out when she was sleeping!

If she won't take a bottle, but will take a straw cup/sippy, i would definitely try giving her milk in a sippy! We rarely use bottles, and I plan to ditch them completely at 1 year, and just use a straw cup for milk/breastmilk. He's been using a straw cup for water since 6 months.

Lo was exclusively bottle fed starting around seven months and flat out refused then at nine months. He didn't get the hang of sippys and straw cups at the time so has been drinking his formula and then reg milk from a regular open cup since then. He's almost 16m now:)

I think whatever you decide will be fine:)! ..... Or rarer whatever lo decides hehehe certainly felt like that for me!:)

Isaac doesn't take bottles. We've started giving water in a sippy cup with meal. He lIke's it but he let's most of the water drool down his chin. Once he gets better at it then we are going to try giving him milk In it.

DD is 14.5 months and has been really stubborn about her bottle. She never used a pacifier and hasn't been attached to a lovie or a stuffed animal, but I'm starting to think that her bottle is her attachment. She demands it for naps and sleeping. But I don't give it to her during the day, instead we're using plain straws in a glass. I'm so tired of cleaning sippy straws!

my plan is to get a straw cup for LOs milk. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't do this! my LO is 13 months and the only reason we haven't ditched the bottle yet is because I can't be bothered going out to choose a cup for him, hehe

ETA: he has taken water out of a straw cup since we started solids, but I want a different cup for his milk

We introduced straw cups to our DD at 9 months old, or maybe a little earlier, and she loved them, but still also demanded her bottle. We tried at 12 months to eliminate the bottles, but she wasn't ready and had a fit. We tried again at 14 months and just phased them out, and it was surprisingly easy. I think she was just ready at that point.

As some of you may know, K basically refuses to drink from a bottle. Or at least, not from me. I have never given her a bottle, and she won't take one from someone else if I'm in the same house/party/vicinity.

Now I am trying to introduce sippy cups and straw cups (for water). Do they eventually just drink milk out of the cups, or is there a reason why you would do water in cups and milk in bottles only?

How old was your LO when you stopped using bottles? Wondering if I should give the bottles away yet or save them for how long?
