I just wanted to update on how awesome Sadie did the past two nights. She went down for the night at 9:30 both nights, and I woke her at 4am when I woke up with hubs for work. I got hubs ready for work, fed and changed S, and then she was back out before 5. Then, she woke me up for the day around 9. Both nights were the same, so though I'm sure it won't be, I'm hoping this is a trend, because I can totally handle this!

I never woke LO up to eat. She ate a TON during the day and had lots of poopy/pee diapers, so I wasn't too worried.

We had to keep feeding our LO every 3 hours for awhile, but that was because he was a preemie and had low birth weight. I think we started phasing out his night feeds around the time he was 1.5 to 2 months old.

Ped said I could stop at 3 weeks. And the only reason he had me go that long was because he wanted to make sure I established a good supply. M was over birth weight by 1 week so he wasnt worried about that at all!

Pediatrician said to wake him up every 3 hrs in the very beginning since he was low birth weight. But he never slept longer than 3 hrs so I never had to wake him!

@photojane: That's what I would have told you too and what I was told when my first daughter was more than 10% below her birthweight.

I guess in my case I knew she was losing weight because my milk hadn't come in... and if anything she was more fussy and difficult to console, so if she actually fell asleep ever, I just left her!

@chopsuey119: Ahhh... 2 weeks?! We're there now, and I would LOVE to sleep through the night. Send me some STTN baby juju.

@Mrs. Jacks: @Mrs. Jump Rope: @mrsmate: The ped told me to wake her every 3-4 hours to eat since she lost over 10% of her birth weight. I was just following directions like a good little first time mommy.. haha. I'm totally ready to jump on the "never wake a sleeping baby" train though!

@photojane: I should add that I don't think I ever woke E up to eat. Until like 5 months he was still waking up every 3-4 hours at night to nurse (we co-slept, so it was no big deal for me). Even now that he's in his own crib and almost 20 lbs he often wakes up every 5 hours or so to eat (although last night he slept for an amazingly long 9 hours!) I say that as long as you're getting a good amount of wet diapers during the day let her sleep as long as she will.

I never woke my DD or DS to eat. DD used to wake up frequently to eat. DS started STTN by 2 weeks.
I would let her sleep for as long as she wants! :D

She was down 11% at her first ped appointment 3 days after her birthday (6lbs12oz), but as of today she's up a full pound (7lbs12oz)! She is eating like a little piggy, and has a wet diaper at every feeding, so I'm hoping that means we can all get a little more sleep. I think tonight I'll try waking at the 5 hour mark like you did, @FutureMrsMcK (if she makes it that long), and see how that goes!

Same as PP. As soon as he was above his birth weight and still having plenty of wet diapers we didn't have to wake him up. DS lost almost 1 pound between the time he was born and when we went home from the hospital.

At his 12 day appointment he was well above his birth weight and our pedi told us we could let him go up to 5 hours without waking him to nurse, and then at his 2 month appointment (his next one) she told us that as long as he was still outputting a plenty of wet diapers during the day we could let him sleep as long as he would.

During the day Sadie usually wants to eat every 2-3 hours, and will wake herself if she's asleep. But, at night she will sleep longer than that if we let her. We've been waking her at the 3-3.5 hour mark to feed, since she lost a lot of weight after birth. At 2 weeks, she's above her birth weight, so I'm wondering if we can stop waking her to feed at night. When did you start letting your LO sleep as long as he/she wanted?
