I am planning on working up until I go into labor. I don't want to use a couple weeks of leave to be at home by myself and put the baby in day care sooner. Granted, this might change once I am at that point and all depends on how I am feeling.

i planned to stop working 1.5wks before my due date but LO came early so i worked up to his delivery date.

being that your family has delivered early, i would maybe stop working 2wks before.

Hmm yeah. Barring earlier labor or complications I think I'll do 38 weeks. DH thinks the anxiety alone won't be worth the last 2 weeks haha. I'll be thinking and stressing non stop!

I worked during the day on Friday and went into labor Friday night. But my office is attached to the hospital I planned to deliver at and I sat in a chair all day. If I had to run after little kids I would have probably stopped around 38 weeks.

I worked up until 37 weeks and LO came at 39 weeks. I had originally planned to stick it out until she came but I was so uncomfortable at work. Honestly I wish I would've stopped working at 36 weeks.

I'm still working (39 weeks today) but am working from home this week to avoid the hour long commute to/from work. I have felt great though and I definitely would have stopped sooner if I hadn't had such a normal, easy pregnancy.

I worked up to week 36 as a FT commuter...3ish hours on the road. Next time, I plan on working FT from home after week 36 up to my due date.

I planned to work until I delivered (worked downtown about 15 mins from my hospital, full time). However, I stopped working at 30.5 weeks b/c of bedrest, but I did work from home until 37.5 weeks....and then returned to work for a few days before I delivered at 38.5 weeks.

I'd plan to work as long as your are comfortable...and having a backup plan for the LO you are watching in the event you go into labor during work. Since you're a first time mom, your labor will likely be long enough that if it starts while you are at work, you will have more than enough time to get to the hospital. Example - I was already 4 cm dilated before I started having "active" labor contractions. I had contractions all day long and finally went to the hospital at 5 p.m. when they were 8 mins apart. Even then, I did not actually deliver until 6 a.m.!

@Foodnerd81: yup my first! I'm expecting late (to avoid frustration) but planning for the 'worst'. My husband will be 2+ hours north of me if a weekday..so I'll be on my own for driving, lol. I'm thinking 38 weeks too!

Totally depends how you're feeling physically and how important that extra income is to you guys. If you feel fine, and the money is important, then I would plan to continue working until 37/38 weeks. But I don't know how physically taxing your work is...I can imagine wanting to run after other kids at 36/37 weeks pregnant if I didn't feel like I had to, you know?

It's your first, right? In your case, I'd probably plan to work until about 2 weeks before delivery, with the option to adjust if things come up. Figuring that most first time moms deliver past their due date (though, not in your family it seems) and first time labors are usually long. Would there be someone to drive you home/ to the hospital, or could your husband pick you up?
I am not a mom yet, so probably people with actual experience could help more, but it seems like you will know you are 'in labor' long before you are actually in active labor where you couldn't wait half an hour or drive yourself or get a taxi yourself or whatever. And, that 2 week buffer would PROBABLY be enough anyway.

So I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant, and I am a nanny. Currently only working 3 days a week (18-20 hours). The family lives 5 minutes away now, but is moving about 35 minutes away when I will be 36 weeks. I planned to work until I delivered because the other nanny who alternates with me is minutes away. Now, it'll be further away if I needed to leave quickly. Would this affect your decision?

Realistically, there are many things that could make this a moot point - bed rest, high bp, delivering early, delivering late etc. let's assume best case here - but I'm also keeping in mind that every woman in my family delivered 2-3 weeks early. I just worry about being scared and having a little one in my care if I go into labor.
