hmmm maybe around 1 1/2? i can't remember exactly, but i do have a video of charlie at 21 months reading a regular book, so we introduced it much earlier than that.

My daughter was good at that from a fairly young age. I'd just buy a few cheap ones, and keep trying your kid on them. When they seem comfortable turning the pages without tearing, there you go.

DS, before he was 1. He was and has always been extremely careful. Until LO2 came along, all of our books were pristine despite him being an avid book lover.

DD is now 14 months and she only gets to look at board books because she isn't nearly as careful as DS.

Pretty early on. DDs are 34 months and 12 months, and neither has ever torn pages.

DS is 23 months and in the last maybe month I've let him look at regular books unsupervised. He is pretty gentle with them.

Before that we would let him read them with us and taught him how to be gentle with the pages. That way if he started to get careless or rough we could remind him to be gentle.

ETA: We haven't bought he anything but board books but he has received other ones as gifts, so that is why we taught him.

When did you let your LO handle regular books without fear of pages being torn?

I know some parents let their kids flip through regular books early on without worrying whether pages get torn. However, our income is pretty limited and most of our books are from the library. I wouldn't want to have to replace their books when we can't even afford to spend that much on books for our own bookshelves.

I know accidents happen, but at what age were you pretty confident that regular books wouldn't be destroyed?
