We took it away at 15.5 months. The dentist told us to take it away by 18 months (at her 15 month appointment), and we figured there was no point in waiting. We took it cold turkey, and to be honest, it was not good. She only ever had it for sleeping, and her nighttime sleep didn't really suffer much, but her naps definitely did. I think it hurried along her dropping to one nap. Still, I'm glad we went ahead and took care of it, and a month or two later, she's well past it.

@Springtime: We hid them all one morning and went cold turkey at 21 months. She did much better than ever expected. The cutting the tip off did not work. She just got pissed when they wouldn't work. out of sight, out of mind worked better.

21 months cold turkey. We half heartidly tried before then and always gave in bc he wasnt ready. He was very very attached. We lost his last Binky and we just said OK time to do it. Turns out he didn't really.miss it. I think we might of had to rock him once and that's it! He took it like a champ bx I think he was ready. He hasn't looked or asked for it at all which is shocking! But.I do think some of his moodiness is caused from it being gone. In the car hr cries a litle more and I miss it for driving but not worth giving in too

With DS, we only gave it to him when he slept and car rides, starting around 8-9 months. Then I noticed at about 21 months he was chewing holes in his pacifier, still using it for sleep only, so I took it away, cold turkey. I was afraid he was going to hew a piece off and choke. It went really smooth, only had 2 rough naps and 1 rough night sleep. He now doesn't even let his sister have her pacifier out of her crib lol

Aw man, my 13 month old loves her wubbanub. But she doesn't use it all day long or sleep with it in her mouth all night long, either. I can't tell if she's more attached to the paci portion or the stuffed animal portion.

I'm interested. LO still uses his "boppy" at 20 months old. He has to say goodbye to it in the morning as we leave for daycare. He can only get it at naps and bedtime. We're planning on having him done with it in the next couple of months.

We started with little holes and each day made it bigger - "oh look, its broke!" It was funny to watch them put it in their mouth and suck and be like "ummm its not working!!!" :silly:

DS was 2.5 - no tears
DD was 2 - a few tears

@MamaG: This is what we're planning to do. D is almost 16 months. We're planning for Memorial Day weekend, because we anticipate a rough night or two - figured we could use the long weekend to catch up on missed sleep! He only gets them at night and at naps, but he is ATTACHED. He will rutch around the crib, but as soon as he gets that paci in his mouth, he's out in about 40 seconds.

17 months. We just took it away. She had several in her crib and one Friday night they were just gone. She fussed for a few minutes and that was it. Daycare did mention that naps were harder to get her to go to sleep for about two weeks.

@Springtime: Went WAY better than expected, she was an addict. We took it away around 19 months, so not long ago, and just cut the nipple off. Took two days and she stopped asking for it. We let her just carry the pacifier around and by the second night when I gave it to her (nipple cut off), she just handed it back, said no, and laid down to sleep. It was awesome!
