My DH wanted to wait until 12 weeks, I wanted to tell right away, so 8 weeks seemed like a good compromise. I told most of my friends and co-workers at 12 weeks, and told my students (I'm a high school teacher) at 13 weeks. I think we'll go public on Facebook at 16 weeks (in just a couple of days) after my next scan. I specifically told my mother not to tell anyone that didn't know (also had told grandparents and siblings) until we said it was okay, and about 5 minutes later she put it on facebook (we had no intentions of ever making a facebook post about it). Luckily, I saw it almost immediately and demanded that she take it down, so no one really even saw it. I was pretty pissed though. I will probably hold back until 10-12 weeks though, because my mom is traditional in that she thinks you can't eat this or that. The Chinese cool and hot logic- e.g. need to avoid watermelon (cool). I know the main ones but I'm afraid there aren't ones I don't know, and I'm eating it that day and she's yelling at me for eating it. I will avoid what I can, but the truth is it's much harder when someone is watching your every move. While I don't believe in all the concepts, once she tells me something it's kind of hard to disregard and not feel guilty about. so near the end of the first trimester it is... and if something happens, i don't want a "I told you so".
