Most doctors recommend going off a few months before TTC because: (1) it's easier for them to date a pregnancy if your cycle regulates before you get KU; and (2) for some women it can take a while to get a regular cycle off the pill (and it doesn't really matter how long you have been on - see my earlier post on this thread). There is NO evidence that getting KU right off of BCP causes birth defects, etc. The hormones in BCP move through your system very quickly - that's why you have to take it every day.</p> <p>So I say go off when you feel ready to TTC, start loosely charting to see if your cycles are ovulatory, and then go for it! Been on BCP for over 10 years, and we are planning to TTC at the end of March when we go away for our belated honeymoon. I am thinking to be on BCP 1 more month,, then start the new year without to give my body 3 months. I'm not sure when we are going to TTC yet, but it won't be for at least another year. I have been on the pill though for almost 10 yrs, and my cycles are still crazy. Im glad I went off when I did because it's giving me time to figure out my cycles before we TTC. I was immediately fertile and had regular cycles (same length as pre-BCP) when I stopped taking the pull. I had been on it consistently for 11 years. My best friend had the opposite situation - she had only been on BCP for a year, but it took 6 months for her cycle to come back when she stopped. </p> <p>I went off one month before we planned to TTC. I was on BCP for 10 years before TTC. My first cycle off of BC was 84 days. I had finished school and we were engaged and I figured if we got pregnant we'd be ok. We used NFP during that time... I guess? It actually took 2 years for my body to start cycling on it's own again. I've always been so thankful I went off when I did because once we were ready to actively TTC it only took 1 month!
