We switched LO's crib into a daybed when she was about 18 months because she would not stay in her crib anymore and was always climbing out. My experience was amazing, I never had a single problem with the transition, she actually started going to bed without a fight and she never got out of bed in the middle of the night either.

LO is approaching 3 in a few weeks but back in January (2yrs 9 mths) is when we transitioned him to a toddler bed so he would be use to it by the time the new baby comes in June (she'll be using his crib).
He did fine with staying in bed all night, although he does wake up early and walk down the hallway to our room every morning. We bought another baby mattress for the new baby though since the toddler bed requires a baby mattress. I would have rather just bought a twin mattress for him and put bumpers on the bed but he's comfortable with the way it is.

It might be best to transition LO for a few months and then move him to a new room, too many changes for them all at once and you'll get more tantrums!

Lo is still too young. But my plan, without much reasoning, is to wait until baby #2 comes, which will hopefully be when lo is a little over 2 but obviously I have no way of controlling that, and then move her into another room because we want the new baby in the room closest to us. We'll keep the crib for the new baby and give lo a toddler bed. But of course this is just talk and no action, so I don't know how it will work or if ill change my mind.

We went from cribs to toddler beds which was a hellish ordeal so we went to mattresses on the floor then back to toddler beds.

I should say most people don't have the issues we had. At one my twins started climbing out of their own cribs and into each others. My older son (only 8 months older than twins) was perfectly happy. We tried toddler beds but bedtime andnap time was at least an hour long battle with them taking the mattresses off, using them as slides, ripping the beds up on their sides and in general just complete chaos. I contribute this to the fact that there were three of them and they were all under two.

So we went to just mattresses. I had to take all the furniture out of their room. I had a book shelf and two dressers stored inmy garage for awhile. It was the saddest looking bedroom ever. Just three mattresses and a closet with a high lock it. Bedtime was still horrendous but I at least knew I wouldn't have anymore bloody lips and noses or black eyes from all the furniture

We moved when my twins were two and my oldest was scouple months shy of three. We put their beds and dressers back in with them and bumped theirbed time from 7 to 8. Now they don't completely destroy everything.

Since you only have one child and he's almost two you should have an easier time of it. Just have in mind how you will handle getting out of bed. Things like if the door is opened or closed or what's accessible in the room if he does get out of bed. Also get in the right state of mind and pick what day you want to start. You will probably have some adjustment nights that might take longer to go to bed. So maybe start on a Friday when you wouldn't have to get to work the next day. Good luck!!!!

Ok so @Mr. Bee and @Mrs. Bee's experience with transitioning Charlie to a toddler bed has me really freaked out. Wagon Jr. is the same age as Charlie and has never tried to climb out of his crib, but I know that day could come any time. Also, with the new baby coming in late July, we have to transition him to a new room.

I'm wondering 1) should we make both transitions at once? 2) when should we transition? should we just start now? and 3) should we go with the toddler bed conversion of the crib, or move to something totally different like a twin bed or a floor bed?

When did you transition, what did you transition to, and what was the reason for transition?
