@2littlepumpkins: I don't think tantrums are a bad reason for turning, especially after two. C is usually pretty good in the car, but occasionally just throws a huge fit and driving with the screaming is pretty dangerous. If turning your LO around means less screaming, less distractions for the driver, I think avoiding an accident altogether is better than RF.

A little after she turned two. I can't remember how many months exactly. We were just having so many tantrums in the car and so much fuss about the carseat. I know others may disagree with this reasoning for turning the carseat around but honestly I only know one other person who waited longer IRL! It helped a lot.

I'm really surprised by how many people are saying it's difficult to get their kids in a RF seat. My son has been climbing in on his own since about 18 months and gets upset when I try to help him. I have a tall seat (clek foonf) and tall vehicle (toyota highlander) and it hasn't been a problem. I'm not sure how a FF seat would make this easier.

DS is 16m and I'm hoping we're able to keep up with it until we need a second carseat, which I'm thinking will be when he's about 2.5. But if it starts to get too difficult to get him in the car, I may need to turn him sooner, but not before 2.

@Foodnerd81: For me, it was much easier. At 15 months, my son was an already solid 30 pounds and I was pregnant. I didn't have to lift him up as high to get him in. He could also help by climbing in. Adjusting and tightening the buckles was also easier for me. Plus I'm only 5'2" so my height didn't help me.

We turned at LOs 2nd birthday. It was getting too hard for me to get her in the car seat with my pregnant belly. Plus I needed more space in the passenger seat and I couldn't get it with RF.

@Foodnerd81: Yes, it is much easier to get her in and out of the NextFit. It has pretty high sides though. Maybe it doesn't make as much difference in other seats. Now that LO is turned around she can climb into the seat herself which is nice. However she's just as likely to scramble into the drivers seat instead which is frustrating.

She's 2 and RF, we won't be turning until she's at least 3, hopefully 4. She's tall so we had to get a new convertible with a higher RF height limit, but it was absolutely worth it. She has quite a bit of growing room still in this one (Diono radian RXT).

I would have liked to keep him rear facing but we do a lot of long car rides and he was becoming a monster. :meh: E will remain RF until at least 2.
