We have the chameleon 3 and love it. We may get an umbrella stroller for next summer and trips on the subway, ferry rides to Toronto Island etc. just for places we want something smaller and really light in case of stairs and cramped quarters.

We live in the city and walk everywhere, and love the stroller!

Thanks ladies, this is helpful!
@foodnerd81: we're in a city, too, and I definitely picture using the Chameleon the way you describe your sister using hers. Good to know that that stroller, specifically, was what she preferred until he was old enough to walk!
@hilsy85: that's a good point about public transportation or other travel -- we will be going cross country to visit the ILs often and you're right about not wanting the "nice" stroller to get messed up!

We got our gluxe after we met some friends for the day at a touristy seaside New England town. We were using our vista as a snap n go, but it was so crowded downtown we had such a tough time navigating. We knew we had to get an umbrella stroller for travel! Now we use it on public transportation, even short trips around our neighborhood.

I use our umbrella stroller when we take public transportation, and will probably use it when we travel. We started using it when Lo was 6 months old; the rest of the time we use our ub vista. I imagine that if you travel you might want to bring a light weight stroller--I personally wouldn't want to risk a bugaboo getting damaged in transit or dealing with two separate pieces when i fold it up but that's just me!

My sister has a Bugaboo Chameleon and never got another one. She did have a borrowed snap and go frame that she used with the carseat for short trips out to visit my parents (she lived in Manhattan, parents in NJ). By the time she felt like she could have used an umbrella stroller or something else lightweight, her son was walking enough that he didn't want to be in any stroller, then they moved to the suburbs where they drive most places anyway.

Not that she is the norm, but she just never felt it was needed. If she was walking far in NYC she wanted the good one, and if it wasn't far, he walked. But that's so NYC specific, where they did not even have a car.

We have a travel system that's pretty bulky, so we needed an umbrella stroller. We started at 6 months. The only time we don't use it is if were going on rough ground or if we are eating on the go because there's a tray on it.

Definitely at the mall or other confined places (museum, ect) - the difference is huge! Its also nice if I'm traveling with someone else - not to use up their whole trunk. I still use my travel system stroller for the zoo/park as its smoother and holds more storage.

I started using one when we stopped using our infant seat and stroller frame at 7 months.

We have a "lightweight" B-Agile. It's our car stroller. I use it for the mall and quick errands where I don't need/have a shopping cart. I still would love something that's even more lightweight, but I'll put off that purchase until we need it for travel.

We are choosing the Bugaboo Chameleon 3 for our stroller, but a mommy friend insisted we would also need a "lightweight" or umbrella stroller...
I'm wondering when -- at what age and on what types of occasions -- you use your lightweight/umbrella stroller? The Bugaboo is such am investment that I don't know if I can justify spending that much on a stroller if we can't/don't want to use it all the time.
