@birdofafeather: Yep, we do that. When I say 10 minutes I mean of active eating. DH stretches the whole thing out to 20+ minutes with burping, swaddling, diaper change etc. We split it into two small bottles and waste a whole bunch of time between the two halves in order to get her brain to catch up with her belly.

@birdofafeather: I agree! Kelly mom has a lot of good stuff on bottlefeeding the breastfed baby.

Around 7-8 weeks. Now at five months she's done in under ten minutes.

For my daughter, it was about 3 months where she got faster but we worked out way there. I would encourage your husband to stretch out the bottle feeding time though. When DH first started giving her bottles, he would make her take lots of breaks and try to mimic a session with me so she wouldn't prefer the bottle and get frustrated with nursing. Doesn't have to be 40 minutes, but maybe somewhere in between.

I think around 8 weeks? Now at 6 months he is SO fast he nurses both sides in ten minutes or less! It'll get better!

Around 6-8 wks I think...has your LO been checked for any sort of tongue/lip tie that would make her slow to transfer milk? If not, then she might just be a gourmand that likes to enjoy her meals! :)

DD and I seem to have overcome a lot of the BFing challenges that we encountered early in our BFing relationship. Nursing is going relatively well now and DD is a slow but steady gainer (midwife and LC have been happy with her progress). She eats 7-9x/day with a long 6-8 hour stretch of sleep at night.

Each nursing session takes about an hour. I generally only feed her on one side per session, and she actively eats for 30-40 minutes (I'm guessing that at least some of this is comfort nursing). When you add in time for burping, waking her up when she falls asleep etc. it adds up to 60+ minutes.

I am finding the amount of time I spend nursing her is taking a real toll on me. DH gives her a bottle of pumped milk before bed each night and she downs it in 10 minutes...it's frustrating that it takes 6x as long to nurse her.

Maybe I'm a horrible, selfish person, but I'm not sure how long I can sustain this schedule...but I will continue to do so because I'm not interested in EPing or FFing at the moment.

So, I'm looking for reassurance that it will become faster.......when did you LO become a more efficient eater?

ETA: She's 7 weeks.
