@skibobrown: Aw, sorry for your non-napper. Our desperation move was always car naps when we were in 2-1 nap limbo. Definitely try limiting the morning one if it continues to be a problem!

@Mrs. Yoyo: I don't think DD is even close to being ready for one nap per day, but she just has also never been much of a napper. Now that she is sometimes extending one of her naps to up to 90 minutes (3 times longer than she had ever napped previously!), she doesn't get as tired for the second nap. But there is no way she can make it all the way to bedtime on just one nap. That is the problem.

As a friend said to us, our daughter does not recognize the need to sleep. (At least not during the day.)

@caffeinated: It was shorter naps, like two that were maybe 1.5 hours each. Now his one nap is anywhere from 2-3.5 hour long naps.

Mine also dropped to two naps around the 7 month mark. I am not looking forward to when it drops to 1!

@Boogs: Did he usually have long naps, or did it become a long nap because he was only napping once a day

Ah yes. This happened to us too, but not that early. Around 11-12 months I had to limit his first nap to 1 hour, and then 45 minutes in order to preserve the afternoon nap. So that's one strategy. Some babies switch to one nap as early as a year, but 9 mos. would be really young.

I would make sure she's definitely getting enough wake time (but not too much to be OT) in between Nap 1 and 2. If you're confident about that and she keeps fighting Nap 2, start limiting Nap 1 to an hour and see if that helps.

For reference, LO went to two 90-minute naps around 7 months and 1 90-minute to 3-hour nap at 15 months.

Before 6 months, naps were all over the place. Some days 3, some days 1, and. Some days none. At 6-6.5 months I decided to just start a two nap schedule. Luckily, it worked pretty well. I'm already looking forward to a one nap schedule, though I know it will be a long time before that happens.

Around when my LO turned one he dropped from two naps to one. Thankfully he still takes one nice, long nap.

Our baby took many short naps for a long time. Around 4-5 months she started reliably taking 3 naps per day (only 30 minutes each). Around 7.5 months she dropped down to 2 naps per day. Usually one of her naps is 30 minutes, and the other one is anywhere between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours. When she takes a long 1st nap, I already feel like she is fighting her second nap of the day. She is 9 months right now.

When did your baby drop down to 2 naps, 1 nap, and 0 naps per day?
