@Revel: It is hard making sure you are home. But I figure once she gets older she isn't as liking to fall asleep in the car seat anyway. So we need to get use to planning around her naps.

This week R hasn't been napping very long at all. I think like PP have said, she is getting distracted cause she moves and hears the other kids so instead of going back to sleep like at home, she wakes up.

@blackbird: Maybe I will get them to try the paci. I was unsure if it was worth it at four months in case we'd have to wean from it soon, but I REALLY want her to nap at daycare.

@scg00387: Glad to have your endorsement - I've sort of tuned out sleep training info because we don't want to CIO, but had forgotten about these methods.

@Smurfette: I think this specifically is probably a big piece for us. We do a lot of stroller and k'tan naps, and it is so much easier on the weekends. I know those won't work forever, and that her sleep is more important, so I guess we'll be focusing on napping at home for a while.

@Mrs. Blue: And this is probably the biggest piece of her nap troubles for us! I think it is just too noisy and there is too much activity. While I hate the situation, it is helpful to know I'm not the only one dealing with it.

I would work on naps at home, so that way you are both doing the same thing. R was napping great at day care and then all the sudden stopped. Would only nap in the swing and then not for long. I finally realized that it was cause we had been going so much on the weekends, she got use to napping in the car or the Ktan. So we had to resleep train her at home that weekend and then she is back to napping good at day care. Now we make sure she gets at least one nap in her crib on Sat and Sun.

@blackbird: She doesn't take a swaddle anymore. We just switched to the magic sleep suit and have had great results with night sleep. Paci is hit or miss with her. I think they aren't trying it anymore because she wouldn't really take it in the first few weeks, but she does take it on the days she's with my mom, so maybe I should ask that they try again.

Maybe I can work on using the MSS for her naps at home and if it works I could get one for daycare.

@scg00387: I have your copy of No Cry Sleep Solution! I will take a look at PU/PD. Her night sleep is pretty easy actually. I nurse her down at bedtime and then she can put herself back to sleep after night wakeups following nursing, so she definitely has the ability.

It sounds like you have to train her to not fall asleep in the arms. Does she take a swaddle and pacifier?....We had to start nap training around that time, too, but we didn't do CIO until just recently at 6 months.

E is still getting swaddled at daycare. We're trying to break it now...

Bumping my thread to see if I can get any more input. We are now through six weeks of daycare and naps have not improved. They did get a swing for her and that was helping for a short time, but doesn't seem to be working anymore. We also sent over the same white noise machine we use at home.

I had a longer conversation with the provider about it yesterday and she said LO will fall asleep in arms, but then will wake when put down. Other than her first morning nap at home, this is the case for us too (!) so I can't fault them too much. At home we still do a lot of stroller/carrier naps, or I will nurse her down while laying with her.

I have been toying with trying to crib train her for naps, do you think this might help out at daycare? If so, I'm not comfortable with CIO, can anyone offer any suggestions on crib training without CIO? She is four months old.

I would love for her to even just get one or two short naps there, it would make me feel so much better. On the plus side, the provider seems like she will really do whatever she can to work with us.

@Revel: that's very similar to our set up - Penny is in a family daycare too and the other two kids are a few months older and only take one nap. My determined little one couldn't handle napping when her little friends were still up and playing!

Problems definitely seem magnified when you're dealing with all the emotions/adjustment returning to work. Its a huge change being away from your LO! Especially as your bub is so little still. But youll both adjust - even if there are a few tears along the way (we have all been there!). Babies learn to join up their sleep cycles between 4-6 months on average, so she's not far off learning how to take longer naps anyway... Trust me, life improves when cat napping turns into real napping!!

unfortunately, my situation is similar to that of @BabyBoecksMom:. LO started daycare at 3 months old--4 months later he still does not nap well. he usually gets one 45 minute or 1 hour nap. there were a few days that he got two 45-minute naps. yesterday, he got NO NAPS. he konked out on the way home and slept for 2.5 hours. he blew past his bedtime, woke up, and went down for the night 1 hour later.

i toyed with the idea of pulling him out and getting a nanny, but besides the napping we do like our daycare and it wasn't worth losing our spot--we are just grinning and bearing it until he transitions to the toddler room, where they have a set naptime. i am 99% confident he will nap at that point. but in the infant room, with no schedule and all the noise, he is way too distracted to nap.

@littlek: @autumnlove: Thanks for the insight. She's at an in home daycare so no infant and toddler room, but I do think there is a set naptime/quiet time for the older kids, so maybe as she gets older she'll fall into that routine. LittleK, nice to know I'm not alone in stressing about this, and that it will get better.

@mrs.cookie: Our situations are similar in that she is going 3 days a week so I'm hopeful she adjusts, and as you said, she just seems a little extra tired the next day. She spends the day after her daycare days with my mom who does get her to take some naps, so that makes me feel a lot better. I think the challenge of transitioning back to work makes all this stuff seem magnified, so I appreciate the kind words.

My LO doesn't nap well at daycare (compared to home) ... It took her about 3 weeks (2 days a week) to learn to nap there, but even now 5 months in she naps less and shorter than at home, because she's just too excited/happy/interested in what's happening! We joke she has fomo (fear of missing out).
Her carer puts music on for her now and that seems to help. She's a bit tired on the day after her two days at daycare, but happy, just takes an extra long nap that day. I just try to keep Wednesdays (our next at home day) quiet so she can nap as much as she likes.

Try not to freak out too much, it's hard adjusting to the work/daycare juggle, you will both be ok! :)

@Smurfette: Thanks for the tip! I'm going to send a white noise machine next week. She barely slept yesterday and I had a total mini-meltdown with the daycare owner - embarrassing. I think it's just making the transition to work a little more stressful because I feel bad that LO is having a bad day. But she really seems fine when I pick her up, just tired, but happy, so maybe I need to let it go a little bit.

I asked them to move her crib to the side, so one side is the wall. We brought in a sound machine and sleep sack. Those combined seemed to help her nap better.

I don't want to scare you, as I think my daughter is a rare case, but she never took good naps at daycare. She'll sleep 2-3 hours at home, but she was too alert and curious about everything going on around her, that she never wanted to nap. She would come home SO overtired. She did much better when she moved to the room between babies and toddlers, even though they only had one nap.

My LO is on her third day of daycare so I may be jumping the gun with this post, but she is barely taking one nap with them. She took one being held the first day, one in a swing/rocker the second day, and hadn't napped as of noon today (up since 7:20am). She is almost 14 weeks.

She has always been a cat napper. I usually get four 30ish minute naps out of her on a day off. Sometimes these will be in her pack n play (where she sleeps at night) but often in the stroller, carrier, nursing etc, which are obviously things that daycare can't do.

I just feel so badly that she's not sleeping. When I called today they said she was very fussy, and I know it's because she's tired :(

When did your LOs get used to daycare and start napping?
