At 8 weeks we were blissfully napping in the swing & I would have kept it up until she broke the damn thing, but unfortunately she decided she was over it so we moved to the crib. Now we are anticipating nap training because I spend hours every day getting her down & keeping her down. If I could go back, I might have tried harder to get her to sleep in her crib & to fall asleep independently so we wouldn't have to sleep train. On the other hand, the swing was such a lifesaver & those several weeks of great naps were wonderful.

Do you have a swing? I used that for both kids on days when crib naps weren't working. Lifesaver!

I didn't even try for them much til four months! Dd slept in the swing. But around four/five months she preferred the crib, so it worked out! :)

We're still hit and miss with the crib naps at just shy of 4 months. They are usually only 30 minutes after I nurse him down. Every once in awhile I'll get an hour or even two, but normally to have a nap that long he still has to be in his swing.

I'm hoping this corrects itself soon ... it's exhausting putting him down every couple hours just to have him up a half-hour later, plus look after a toddler. Said toddler gets very grumpy being dragged upstairs every time baby brother has to be put down for a nap.

My DS2 was a dream the first month-2.5 months. He'd just fall asleep anywhere with active, screaming toddler right next to him. From around 2.5-4 months, it was tough. He was more awake and it was harder for him to go back to sleep/nap. I started sleep training him around 3.5-4 months bc of the same reason as you... I needed to be able to look after my toddler and have some routine to count on for DS2 to fall asleep. Not gonna lie - it was tough. He'd cry and cry up to an hour even though I knew he was tired.

At around 4.5-5 months it just got better...either because of the training or just b/c of his age. We are at 6.5 months now and his napping/sleep has been pretty good. Not spot on perfect but for the most part, mommy has her sanity back.

People told me that most babies start to sleep much better (nap and nighttime) around 5-6 months. It seemed like such a far time away and I was looking for other answers, but it did end up being true for us. Good luck mommy!

She didn't nap in the crib until almost 4 months (even though nights were in the crib). She slept in the swing, until one day we were out and tried the playpen and she slept!

LO didn't nap on her own until 12wks. Before that she either napped on me or I wore her if I wanted to go out or get things done around the house.

LO 1 was a bad napper and it was a struggle until she was 14.5 months.

LO 2 started napping on her own at 8 weeks but it got inconsistent when she started daycare at 17 weeks.

Very normal! I had to hold my LO for naps until she was about 5 months old. :/ That said, she is a pretty good napper now (except this morning!).

DS napped pretty much exclusively in the packnplay or swing until he was five months old. He sttn at nighttime in his crib at 12 weeks, but just didn't like naps in his crib until then. I think that 8 weeks is pretty normal for sporadic sleep habits!!

My 8 week old is having a hard time napping on her crib by herself. She does great at night but naps are rough and we usually end up having to rock her back to sleep a lot. It's hard when you have an active toddler to look after and begging for attention too.

Please tell me it's normal at this age! Any tips on better naps ideas?
