1 year old next week and still dropping food off the side of the tray - then, frequently, screaming for it! Sigh. If I give her another bit, off it goes but you can guarantee if I gave her the bit off the floor to re-throw it would go straight into her mouth!!

@Foodnerd81: Yeah I think it should pass or at least get better soon. The one thing I have caught my daughter throwing on purpose is sippy cups...then of course some of the lids come off and we get milk puddles. We also use a super cheap area rug in the kitchen so that helps with the mess. I think I lucked out with a kid that didn't throw too much food.

@Modern Daisy: Yes with the spoon wrestling, or occasionally, swatting. I can see her coming when she tries to grab it, but she will suddenly bat it out of my hand and the yogurt goes flying. Awesome. I'm experiementing with loading the spoon with yogurt and helping her guide it to her mouth, which she seems to like but then won't give the spoon back. She did let me spoon a few more bites in while holding the first spoon, so that was something.

@googly-eyes: Not like spills and messes are fun, but they don't bother me as much because it wasn't on purpose. It's the intentional picking up her food and dropping it that drives me nuts.

She might be slowing learning though-- she likes to hold her water cup, but when she starts shaking it, I take it away and I THINK she might be starting to get it that shaking= no more water. I dread the day I have to start putting milk in there though. Water is much easier to clean.

10 months - everything on floor. Food he loves, even when hungry. And constant wrestling the spoon out of my hand too.

16 months and it's been going on since he was at least 10 months old. It's probably gotten worse, not better, unfortunately. It's not a boredom or done thing, either. I think he just likes throwing? Sigh.

14m and she suddenly stopped last week when I started serving her food on a plate or we all sit down together to eat. When she's done she signs and says "All done!" She's always signed all done but would dump whatever was left but for some reason (maybe cause we eat on plates and don't dump our food!) plates were the answer for her.

13 months and still throwing food on the floor! It's random too, not necessarily food he likes or dislikes-I think it's just fun to observe gravity. He's getting better, though. I can actually put a few pieces of food on the tray at one time now! ;)

@Anagram: @Foodnerd81: it's probably the most annoying thing at the moment for me aswell. It's odd because if I put the food on a spoon and give it her that way she'll eat it just fine, so she obviously likes that food! What seems to help sometimes is leaving the food on the tray whilst I give her purees and she'll come back to it or putting the food straight into her mouth and then she'll usually continue to pick more up off the tray. I do think sometimes she forgets certain items are food!

19 months and she didn't throw food till about 17 months, and then she started launching her spoon and any food she was done with overboard. It seems to have petered out now - we consistently took things away if she threw them on the floor, so maybe that did the trick.

C is driving me insane with this. And it's not just when she doesn't like something, or she is finished. It's just a lot. I only ever give her a few pieces at a time (because I don't want to pick up a whole serving off the floor). Yesterday she had avocado, which she loves. First several pieces went straight on the floor. Then she remembered she likes it and ate the rest and was mad there was more. Well, hey sweetheart, there is more but now it's on the floor. Good job.

It's so annoying, actually my biggest annoyance with parenting right now. And she does eat a wide variety of textures and flavors, it's just one day she devours it and the next she tosses it all on the floor. I'm glad I usually only make her things I like too so at least I can eat them when she refuses.

I'm sure all babies are different on this--but my LO is 1 and still throws most everything. Except blueberries. I've tried giving her a bunch of food at once, and she'll literally take her arm and swipe is all down to the floor. I've tried giving her 1-2 pieces at a time..and then she'll painstakingly take each piece one a time and throw it to the floor. I've tried giving it in a bowl (whole bowl is thrown to the ground), on her tray...basically with a cat, in a hat. jk on that last part.

Anyway, yeah, she throws it all. I don't really know what to do, but I just hope it passes at some point. She loves to eat when I feed her chunks with my hand. But she only feeds herself blueberries and blackberries and sometimes sausage lately.

It is getting better slowly, I mean, she did eat a fair amount of a slice of bread this lunchtime...but I see other babies her age (10 months) and they are eating everything from their high chair tray, fruits, veggies, pasta etc. Unless it is breadsticks, puffs, cheerios and sometimes cheese, LO throws everything straight onto the floor. Maybe she has a problem with things that are not a solid texture, I don't know :(

Is this normal for her age? When will it get better?
