We have been talking about birthdays a lot since Christmas so she knows it is in April. She's not really getting the concept of 3 turning 4 even though she can count.

DS will be 4 next month and usually knows his birthday is in March but doesn't really know the day. But he doesn't know when March means or how long. He also likes to say his birthday is in September.

Like @Corduroy: he knows the order of birthday's and holidays this year until his birthday. He always talks about what is next.

Maybe right around when she turned 3? She's 3.5 and has known it for awhile.

DD turned 4 yesterday and I think she sort of got it this year. "The 23rd." I'm not sure she'll remember in a month. She only really knows the order of the family birthdays: cousin1, cousin2, xmas, cousin, valentines, DH, her.

My DD learned her birthday around 3.5ish. She will be 4 next weekend and still doesn't really understand time... she just has the date memorized.

My 2.5 year old thinks it should always be his birthday and he thinks he's 4 turning 2 lol. My 4 year old knows the month and I think was able to remember that from around 3 years old but he still forgets the day. I just asked and he said the 27th but it's actually the 7th.

My son will be 3 in April and has no idea when his birthday is. I've never told him. His understanding of time is tenuous at best. He does at least know how old he is and that he will turn 3 next.

My son randomly has known this for about 3 months now. He's 2.5. I think they talk about birthdays a lot at school so that's where he picked it up. It definitely wasn't something I was actively working on with him.

@Mamaof2: @bookwormmama: @twodoghouse: thanks for the replies! I asked him when his birthday was and he told me he doesn't have a birthday :) He likes saying the month and day of the week, I suppose I could work his birthday into the conversation at some point...

My son will be 3 in March and he's recently started telling us when we ask (like maybe within the past month?). I think I just mentioned the date every time he brought up his birthday and one day he remembered the date. He has a really good memory, so I'm not sure it was really anything I did outside of just saying the date when he brought his birthday up. The same thing happened with him knowing his age. He overheard me telling people he was 2.5 and then one day just started saying he was 2.5.

I think he knew the month earlier than the date, but like your son he has no concept of time or months, so even though he knows the date it doesn't really mean anything to him. He constantly asks if it's March and I usually use that time to say "the current month is February and the next month is March."

Around 2.5 my daughter could say her birthday (and now she will tell you that May is only 60 miles away 😂). But her teacher told me the other day that they were talking about ages and birthdays, and when asked how old she was, A told her teacher "just go ask my mom." So that's great.

Her brother (twin, so same age) can say his birthday is in May maybe half the time he's asked, but never says the actual day. They'll be 3 at the very beginning of May.

My 2.5 year old does not know when his birthday is, I guess he was the only child in his daycare group that did not (they were sharing during circle time). I've never thought to teach him before, since he doesn't really understand time yet. When did your child learn? Did I drop the ball?
