@meredithNYC: so what has happened for us is on the day my son goes to school (2 days) he doesn't nap. On those days he goes to bed at 715 but is up at 615. He is super crabby by 5 pm on no nap days. Then I put him down for a nap at the normal time that day. Sometimes he takes awhile to fall asleep but usually naps and goes to bed at 8 or 830. Then once or twice a week takes a long nap (2.5 or 3 hrs)

My son is not the best sleeper, he dropped his nap this past August, at 3 years 8 months.

@Mrs. Tiger: She will hang out in the crib happily, but lately she has started taking off her pull ups and peeing in the bed. We haven't transitioned her to the toddler bed yet and so she can't get out to use the potty and/or play with the toys in her room. And I dread putting her in the toddler bed yet. I am thinking about trying your plan of just napping every other day or every few days.

DD is still napping regularly - she's turning 4 in January. She also gets a 9:30 pm bedtime though. DS is napping too, but he's only 20 months.

Around 2.5-3 yrs old, DD did go through a phase where she was resisting naps, so I had her do quiet time instead.

She could technically skip her naps now, and sometimes we do if we're out and about but she either falls asleep in the car, or she gets cranky around 5-6 pm.

My 3yo takes a nap about once every four days or so. He's not totally cranky the first day, but on day 3 or 4 he's miserable. He then passes out for like 2-3 hours and I have to wake him up so he doesn't stay up all night.

I've thought about just getting him to no naps, but they nap/rest at his school (2x a week) and it's honestly a nice break for me when I can get my 1yo down at the same time! If he doesn't sleep he'll play in his room or "read."

@meredithNYC: maybe try putting her down every other day? She won't hang out in the crib/bed awake at all?

Bumping this. My 2.5 year old fights naps almost every day and it is wearing me out. If we skip the nap she is crabby and I have to put her down so early for the night - like 6:30. Maybe I'm just in denial about her being done with naps?

My LO dropped his nap around 26 months. He will still nap on the weekends if we go out for the day. When that happens, bedtime gets pushed back and he gets less sleep overall.

charlie still naps on the weekends pretty regularly. just on saturdays because i don't let him nap on sundays so that he will get a full night of sleep before school. he will be 5 in december. but he doesn't nap at all during the week.

olive hasn't napped at all at preschool the past week. she will be 3 next month and i know she still needs the nap. but she has been fighting it lately and honestly it's just easier to let her skip it and give her an early bedtime. sometimes she'll sleep 13 hours plus because she's so tired. sometimes she melts down in the evenings, but overall easier just not to nap because her bedtime was getting so late!

My son is almost 2.5 and there are many days he refuses to nap. I leave him in his crib 1.5 hours and if no nap then he go for a stroller walk and he almost always passes out. That and the fact that he is a royal mess without a nap makes me think he still needs the nap.
