Your digestive tract experiences some significant changes during pregnancy. Perhaps the most dramatic occur late in pregnancy when your developing baby compresses your stomach and intestine. my first trimester, however, wasn't without its own share of digestive changes. Eating several small snacks rather than a few big meals will help optimise digestive function. You should also try to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, as these are rich in fiber. Fiber and water both improve and speed digestive function.

Within2 weeks or so I was back to normal.

Have you tried probiotics? Kefir? Pickled food like kimchi or sauerkraut?

I feel like my stomach has been off since I weaned, about 2 years ago. I suspect it could be hormonal, haven't tried a true elimination diet or seen a dr about it. Mainly episodes of nausea related to bm and late at night. I'm due in a few weeks with my second and interested to see how I feel and hopefully address it if it is still a problem. You are not alone!

My heartburn went away completely after my first was born, but although it lessened quite a bit, it hasn't fully gone away 3 months pp with my second. :bummed:

@nana87: I'm 15 months postpartum with LO2 and my stomach has just been off ever since my csection. Constipation, random bouts of gas and diarrhea. At about 8 mos PP I went to see my primary care dr who suggested Probiotics and metamucil. My stomach was still acting up, so I had a consultation with a gastro but he wants me to finish breastfeeding before doing an endoscopy/colonoscopy. I also just started taking a digestive enzyme so I can't tell if its helping yet. Hope you feel better soon!

My heartburn never went away, and I ended up seeing a gastroenterologist shortly before my second turned one, partly because I had already reached my OOP maximum for the year. My heartburn was worse than yours seems to be, and even on Prevacid and Zantac I was having issues. My gastroenterologist said that losing weight might help, even if at a weight at the high end of healthy, but I lost some weight am currently at a low-for me weight closer to the mid-range of the healthy weight range and it has not helped. I had an endoscopy, which did not really show anything, and I am on a prescription.

Tums can cause constipation, so maybe try going off of them. Prenatal vitamins can also cause constipation (the iron and the calcium), but it might be a good idea to stay on them if you are nursing.

I was definitely still taking colace a few months PP but not six months. Maybe send a note to your doctor to ask.

@nana87: I have issues like this regularly but worse in pregnancy and I find that my other issues are amplified by constipation so getting to the route of that may help you. I wouldn't think it's really pregnancy related now unless maybe you're exclusively breastfeeding- I can't speak to that.

I would keep a food/fluids diary for a few weeks and see if you notice any patterns.

Drink tons of water, like 100oz+ a day, eat lots of whole fruits, lots of veggies. I didn't have pregnancy related issues, but I have long standing issues with GERD and constipation, and diet definitely plays a part (not the whole story for me but it can alleviate some symptoms).

I did. I feel like I was taking colace for two months or more. I feel like nursing had a lot to do with it. Like it was pulling all of the water in my body towards producing milk and my intestines slowed and...well.. ya know.

Symptoms like heartburn, gas pains, constipation...? Basically, things that are normal during pregnancy but not so much in normal life?

I had occasional heartburn prepregnancy but otherwise my stomach issues appeared during pregnancy. At my 6 week postpartum appointment my dr seemed surprised that I was still dealing with constipation but not overly concerned... but now lo2 is nearly 6 months 😱 Some days it's not as bad as other days but I'm still regularly taking Zantac, tums, colace, gas x... I started fiber gummies and that's helped a little... basically trying to figure out when I should go see a dr! Fwiw im nursing and haven't really lost weight even though i do yoga or work out fairly regularly and eat about as well as I did prepregnancy

Anyone else have symptoms that lingered way after baby was born? Did they go away on their own or did you need to seek treatment?
